I looked at Daniel, trying to get some knowledge on the situation. He just stared at me with a blank expression, so I turned to Kendra, her face was troubled, like she was trying to spare my feelings or something. I looked back at Daniel, who's eyes looked at me with such coldness.
"So, why are you back." He slowly looked at Kendra, who panicked a little. "You said you were done, you caused this family so much pain, why are you back?! Do you know we're still paying for your mistakes?!"
"Danny, I-I'm sorry! I've tried to explain to you what happened so many times before, but you wouldn't listen!" I felt akward standing here, I wasn't sure if I was to run, or stay here and watch everything unfold before me.
Danny held up his hand, silencing Kendra. Her blond hair flowed in the light wind and her brown eyes were conflicted. "Jessa, if you really want to leave.........at least let me take you home."
I could tell Danny's past ran all through this place. Maybe if I stayed, I could figure more out about Danny and the type of person he really is. It's obvious that Kendra knows him better than anyone here does. After all she was closest to him and it's written all over Danny's face.
"You know, I think I'll stay." I walk past Kendra and head towards Danny, who looks confused. I lean in towards his ear and whisper, "This just got interesting."
Heading back inside, I leave Danny and Kendra to a much needed reunion and head off to find Fiona. I know she can't be upstairs because Danny locked the door, so I headninto the mix of people on the dance floor.
I dance through the crowd, searching for Fiona and end up spitting her at the bar. I head towards that direction. "Fiona!" Hearing her name, she begins to search around, so I call out again. "Fiona!" Finally reaching her, she smiles when she sees me.
"Jessa, enjoying yourself? Where's Danny? I though he would be with you." I take a deep breath and let it out.
"Why does Kendra know me?" Fiona's smile drops from her face and her mouth parts. I can tell she was dreading the fact that I had asked, but I know Fiona knows the answer.
"Jessa." She hesitates, debating on if she should tell me or not. "I really think you and Danny should sit and have a talk. He really does like you, Jessa."
"Fiona, he's only known me, what? A few days. I'm a complete stranger to him, he clearly knows Kendra a whole lot better than he's known me." I get ready to leave and then I remember where all my stuff is. "Do you have a key to the doors? I'd really like to get my stuff and go home."
Fiona's face goes blank, she looks as if she really wants to say something, but then her face relaxes and I can tell she changed her mind. "Sure, Jessa. Come on, I'll let you up there."
We head over to the door and Fiona unlocks it. I follow her up the steps, just like I did with Daniel and then she unlocks the other door. "I'll be right back. I'll lock the door so no one comes up here." I nod and Fiona heads back down the stairs.
After I change my clothes, I take one final look at the place. It's a shame that this is my first and possibly last time being in a place as beautiful as this. I walk over to the family wall, I can't help, but stare at my name as it is amongst everyone else's. My eyes drift over to Daniel's name, while a feeling of defeat sweeps over me.
"Oh, Danny. How could I be so stupid." This sure was a butter sweet moment, I don't think I would be as sad if I didn't have to go home and face a much more dangerous past. It sickened me.
"Jessa!" I looked up to see Danny standing in the doorway and Fiona right behind him.
"Daniel, what are you doing up here? You should be downstairs." I didn't expect to see him, I thought we ended are introductions and goodbyes at the door. I was actually hoping to slip out of the place unnoticed by him, or anyone else in the family.
