Danny and I had become so lost in the enjoyment of each others company, that we had forgotten about the other people that were here with us, we had forgotten our troubles, and any pain. A lifetime of hurt was washed away in a moment of stability.
We were standing by the water and Danny was telling me about how muched he loved being down here. When he finished talking, I slashed water at him, causing him to laugh in shock. "What's wrong, Daniel? Scared of a little water?" I smirked at him.
"No, but you should be." Danny chased me a long the shore, when he finally caught me, he picked me up, midrun, causing me to laugh. He spun me around until I slid, so that our foreheads touched and my arms wrapped around his neck.
Daniel held me close and our eyes locked. I could tell he was thinking and could see the wheels turning in his head. "Jessa, I....."
"Fiona! Fiona, what are you doing?!" I looked up to see Fiona storming our way. If she was a cartoon character, steam would be coming out if her ears, with fire coming out of her head. Phillip was behind her, chasing her, of course Darla wasn't too far behind and Lucas was on his toes, not wanting to miss the madness.
Danny released his grip on me, taking note of Fiona. I could sense that he was irritated and I stood back, waiting to see whatever madness that was about to unfold. "Fiona, stop. What's going on?"
"Your girl, here, goofed around, trying to go to the beach and missed the deadline for the McCoy file!" Danny held Fiona back.
"Yo, Fiona, chill. So she misses a deadline."
"Not just any deadline, the most important deadline of all of our careers! You're seriously, still going to vouch for her?" Rolling my eyes, I had just about enough of Fiona.
Heading over to the chair I was sitting in, I grabbed my beach bag and headed towards the parking lot. Phillip, Darla and Danny chased after me.
"Jessa!" Danny ran up to me, grabbing my hand. I stopped walking and faced him. "Where are you going?"
"To go finish there files." Annoyed I pulled the strap of my bag, closer to my shoulder.
"Jess, you didn't drive here." Darla spoke softly to me.
"Yeah, don't let Fiona get to you, she just put her whole life into this company, she's sensitive about it." I looked Phillip in his eyes. If only I could tell them what I overheard with Fiona and Phillip.
Taking a deep breath, I tried to maintain my sanity. My eyes glimpsed out into the distance. "Look, there's a coffee shop down the road, I-I'll just finish them there."
"That's still a long walk. Jess, let me drive you." Danny released my hand and started going through his bag for his keys.
"No, the walk will do me some good. I just need time to clear my head." Slowly, Danny stood up and Phillip wrapped his arm around Darla, while they each exchanged reluctant looks.
"Alright, Jess. See you later." Darla gave me a weak smile, then, her and Phillip walked off. Danny, however, stared at me not wanting to let me go.
"Half an hour and then I'm coming down there to get you." I stared at him as he walked away. My eyes then caught a glimpse of Lucas and Fiona, their dirty looks adding fuel to my fire.
When I arrived at the café, I got a few hoots and hollers from some random guys, ignoring them, I headed to the counter, going in my purse for my wallet.
"Hi, can I......well, you sure don't look dressed to be sitting in a café." That voice, I knew that voice. Looking up, my mouth dropped and my eyes nearly fell out of their sockets.
