Getting To Know You

"Gladly." Fiona takes a sip from her drink, as I turn towards her. She read Danny like a book, earlier. If there's anyone that knows anything about Danny, I'm sure it's her. I've even noticed she kind of acts like him too.

I get myself a drink, preparing myself for whatever information is about to come my way. I rest my head on my hand, as Fiona begins to talk. "Start from the beginning, I want to know everything."

"Danny brought us all together as a family, if it wasn't for him, none of us would be together. Some of us would probably even be dead." Fiona's eyes had a spark to them, she spoke with such passion and with each word that she said, drew me deeper into the story.

Around five, in the morning, the club begins to empty and everyone seems beat. I'm still at the bar with Fiona and we're both borderline drunk, Phillip and Darla were on the sofa, in the corner, laughing, Danny was no where in sight, and Carlos, Honey, Gavin and Eloise were dancing away on the floor.

"Jessa." Fiona and I look up, only to see Danny. There was something different about him, I couldn't quite tell what it was, but something about him was different. I looked at Fiona and she nodded, turning her head.

Trying to rise to my feet, I stumble a bit. Managing my balance, I stand up straight, facing him the best way I can. I stare into his eyes, only to have him staring back. "Daniel."

He doesn't say anything, he just grabs my hand and leads me toward the stairs. Leaving me at the bottom, sitting on the steps, he runs upstairs and later comes back with my purse, keys, and the dress I wore. Helping me up, we head out of the building and to his car.

I lay back in the seat, feeling the movement of the car as Danny drives. Closing my eyes, I try to get my thoughts together, but most of the night seems a blur.

On the roof top of the old bank, I sit on the floor, looking out at the beautiful sunrise and the birds as the fly through the sky. My body is completely drained, as I sit with Daniel's jacket wrapped around me. I pulled it closer to me, not to cover my physical coldness, but the coldness I felt deep down inside.

"Here, drink this." Daniel hands me a cup of coffee and I sip it, slowly. Then, he hands me an asprin and sits down next to me, looking down at the beach. "I watched the cameras the whole night, you and Fiona had a lot to talk about.

"Yeah, we were just having a good time. Having a little girl talk." I pop the asprin and wash it down with the coffee. He nods and I can see his wheels turning.

"The sunrise is always an amazing sight, don't you think?" I look up to see the orange, yellow and red mixing into each other as the white clouds move through the sky slowly. The sun was like a big, golden, light that warmed the earth and broke through the sky, as if it was saying: here I am.

"It's rare that I ever get to see because I work so much, or I'm always on the go, but now that I sit here and look at it, I realize how much I miss simple moments like these. It's truely beautiful." I take another sip from the cup.

"It is beautiful........just like you." Daniel mumbles the last part of his sentence and I look up at him, his big, brown eyes look down at me and a smile spreads his face.

At that moment, something changes and Danny leans in towards me and I close my eyes, I feel the anticipation of wanting my lips on his and right when his lip brushes mine, my phone rings. Danny stops midway and I look down. Picking up my phone, I let out a sigh. "Hello?"

"Jess, where are you? Ava called me saying you didn't come home yesterday and I kept trying to call you last night, but you never answered. Is everything okay?" I ran my fingers through my hair, pressing the phone closer to me.
