Waking up, I try to forget the events that took place earlier. Instead, I decide to make breakfast for me and Ava, but as I walk past her room, I notice the door is closed and it's unusually quiet.
I knock, but there is no answer. "Ava?" Pressing my ear toward the door, I wait, but it doesn't seem to be any sighs of activity. "Ava." I try once more, but nothing.
Standing back, I place my hand under my chin, wondering where my sister could possibly be? Maybe she's still mad. I decide to let Ava come to me when she's ready, but maybe the smell of bacon will cause her to come down.
I wait, and wait, but eventually it turns into me eating by myself. I really don't understand why Ava made such a big deal out of everything, she knows how things have always been between us. It's not like I was just being mean to her.
Picking up my phone, I call the one person I can always count on in a situation like this. "Hey, Kennedy."
"Hey, Jess. You okay? You sound a little troubled?" Taking a deep breath, I try to gather my thoughts.
"So, Ava is staying with me for a month. My parents gave me the honor of watching her, while they're going on last minute business trip for a month."
"What?! Have they lost their minds?! This is Ava we're talking about. Did they forget that....."
"Kennedy." I close my eyes pushing back the memories I have of living with my parents and Ava. I try to shake them the best I can. "I really don't want to relive any of the memories."
"Right....sorry." I mouth it's okay and she takes a moment. "Well, where is she now?"
"In the her room with the door locked. She really has it out for me since early this morning." Resting my head on my hand, all my emotions hit me at once.
"Than why are you letting her misery get to you? Come on, Jess. You deserve to have a little fun in your life, especially if you're going to be stuck with Ava for a month."
"You're right, but I don't trust her in my home by herself."
"I'll come watch her, you just go get ready I'll be there in no time." Kennedy's right, I shouldn't let someone make me miserable just because they are.
"Okay. You're right. Thanks Kennedy, you're the best, best friend I've ever had. I'll go get ready."
"You're welcome." I hang up and rush upstairs to my room.
Opening my closet, I stare at all the dresses that I use to wear, back in my party days with Kennedy. It seemed weird to be pulling them all back out. My fingers ran over every silk, and cotton dress.
Deciding on a royal blue dress, I stared at myself in the mirror. The dress was a couple on inches above my knees and flared a little towards the bottom. In the middle, the dress was cut a little, leaving only a piece of curved fabric that covered my belly button and extended to my sides, exposing a small piece of my skin, on both sides. The dress was strapless, with secret pockets. I put on smokey eye shadow and lip gloss, but my black, strappy, five inch heels, leaving my hair curly and loose.
By the time I was done getting ready, Kennedy was ringing the doorbell. I went to meet her at the door, but as I unlocked the door and opened it, her mouth dropped. "Honey, are you going out to have fun, or going to catch you a man? Because dressed like that, you're definitely going to get one."
Kennedy couldn't stop looking at me in amazement and I was already starting to feel better. "You really think I look that good?" I did a full turn, so she could get a whole view of any mistakes I missed.
"Good? You look amazingly beautiful. Although, you are missing a few things." She ran up the stairs to my room and came with a black, clutch purse, black flats, a silver, teardrop shaped necklace that had a black jewel in the middle and silver hoops. "Put these on, never go anywhere without a purse and keep these flats in your car, when your feet start to hurt, I don't want you to be the tipsy girl that's bare foot.
