Chapter 24: One By One

* Thomas' POV *

The next day, Alice and I walked into school with my arm around her waist. Ever since all of the confrontations with Brittany in front of practically the entire school, everyone knew our names and considered us as popular. I had never been in a popular group before, I was always too busy blocking everyone out or beating them up for provoking me. It felt nice, even though people were still irritating.

I wasn't the same guy as I was before I came here, before I met Alice, so I wasn't about to punch someone if they stared at me for too long or anything. I was different now, a better person, less violent, more talkative, and I actually cared about the others around me. Alice's friend group had accepted me and now we were all very close, well, maybe Zack and I weren't exactly close but we were both trying to be friends for Alice's sake.

"I wonder how long it'll be till we see that skank."

We had joined the group at the moment when Olivia was talking about Brittany.

"Oh god...Olivia you totally just jinxed it!" Penny moaned so we automatically turned around to see what she was seeing.

"Great..."

Brittany was walking over to us with her two followers staggering behind. Naturally, all of the students were forming a circle around us and getting out their phones for the next argument about to unfold.

"Hey Thomas and...things."

"Get lost Brittany."

"Thomas why are you trying to hurt my feelings?" Brittany placed her hand on her heart and pouted.

"Because your annoying the shit out of me."

The crowd made a loud "oooooh" and Brittany's face looked shocked. What was she expecting, did she actually think I was gonna say hi babe your really fun to talk to? Yeh, right...

"Thomas don't speak to me like that."

"To be totally honest with you Brittany, I don't want to talk to you at all."

"Aw come on babe! Anyway, I was thinking you could come to my house for dinner. My daddy would love to meet you." She batted her eyelashes that were clumpy from all of the cheap, clotted mascara.

"I'm sure your daddy would love a lot of things, but having dinner with me isn't gonna be one of them. Actually, I think I would rather jump off a cliff than meet anyone who's actually sharing the same genes as you."

"OOOOH REJECTED!"

Someone had shouted really loud and everyone started laughing. Brittany glared at them till they all went silent.

"Don't you all have somewhere else to be?!"

"We wouldn't miss this for the world!" Someone else shouted from the back.

"Why can't you just leave us alone?" I gripped tightly onto Alice so she wouldn't step closer.

"Oh so you've decided to join the conversation now have you?"

"Yes." I could tell that Alice was sick of all of the drama.

"Well don't do it again if you know what's good for you."

"Excuse me?"

"Brittany don't you dare make threats to my girlfriend, do you hear?"

"I don't think I did hear, ohhhh welllll."

Now I was the one to be pulled back before I stepped towards her. I looked down at Alice and she gave me a weak smile.

"Ugh why do you two have to look at each other all lovey dovey?! It makes me want to puke!" She opened her mouth and pretended to gag while her followers laughed.
