Chapter 29: The Ride

* Thomas' POV *

I had woken up in Alice's bed but I couldn't feel the warmth radiating from her skin. She wasn't there. I got up and looked at the note that was on the bedside table, waiting for me. It took a few moments to process the information that I read off the paper. Alice had gone to see Zack and was sorry in advance for anything that may happen. The paper was crumpled in my fist as I thought about Zack's smirking face as she walked up to him, just like my dream.

It was about half an hour after I read the note that I heard the front door open and close downstairs. My head turned towards the bedroom door as I waited for it to open. When it did, I watched as Alice came through and stared back at me with an apologetic face.

"Hey."

"Hi."

"Sorry I didn't wake you."

"It's fine."

"I guess I should tell you what happened right?"

"That would be a good start but first, can I ask why you didn't tell me?"

"...I knew you wouldn't want me to go but I had to settle things with Zack."

"What if he hurt you and I wasn't there to stop it?"

"Zack would never hurt me."

"What about that time at the cinema? The mark he left on your arm?"

"...okay...well I don't think he meant to do it on purpose."

"Sure."

"Do you want to know what happened or not?"

I nodded in silence as Alice came to sit next to me.

"We met up and talked about everything and-"

"Did he kiss you?"

She let out a sigh and looked at the ground.

"...yes Thomas, he kissed me b-"

I had stood up from the bed and tightened my fists I'm anger. Alice got up too and hugged me from behind.

"Hey, you didn't let me finish."

"How could he kiss you?! What will it take to get it in his thick skull that he can't kiss you?!"

"Thomas will you just listen to me?!"

I took a moment to calm down before nodding again.

"I pushed him away and...well...I slapped him."

"H-how hard?"

"Pretty hard. He has a red mark on his cheek..."

I turned around and couldn't help the grin that formed on my face.

"You shouldn't smile, it looked like it hurt. I can still feel the sting on my hand!"

"Okay okay, I'm sorry."

"Anyway, after I slapped him, we both apologised. Then, I made sure Zack realised that we weren't meant to be so I asked him if he felt anything when he kissed me. Of course, the answer was no but it took a while for him to accept it. In the end, we agreed that we would just be friends, even though it would take a while for him to get over me."

"Oh, good."

"Yup."

"So he's not gonna try to kiss you all of the time?"

"Nope."

"I have you all to myself?"

"Yup."

I looked at her with a big smile on my face and lifted her up into the air and spun around. We laughed and kissed while I still held Alice in the air.
