* Thomas' POV *
I had closed my eyes in an attempt to make time go faster so the next time they opened, Alice would be back from work. There wasn't much to do in an uncomfortable hospital bed anyway, which meant that, that was the only option.
My attempt was a success as for what was supposed to be about five hours, seemed like five minutes. Though, I was still too tired to lift my drowsy eye lids when Alice finally entered the room. I unwillingly left them shut despite the fact that I was painstakingly desperate to see her beautiful face.
There was a moment of silence after I heard the door moan in detest as it closed, but I soon felt the warmth of Alice's soft hand as she stroked my cheek. I was about to open my eyes to see her deep blue orbs but I decided to keep them closed when I felt one single tear drop fall on my face. A second later, I heard Alice's gentle voice...
"I'm s-so happy you're awake Thomas. So happy."
She was sniffling now.
"When you opened your eyes...I-I...I felt complete again. I know it sounds really cheesy and overly dramatic but that's what it is. W-when I thought you were d-dead-"
Her voice cracked as the word rolled out of her mouth.
"-I didn't know what to do with myself. I mean, it just wasn't the same without you..."
She was laughing a little now.
"You know, I made a promise to myself years ago that I wouldn't let myself love anyone, not truly...or passionately...b-but you. You changed everything. I wouldn't open up to anyone but you. I guess there was something about you that made me want to. Maybe it was the fact that you had a past too...maybe it was something else, I don't really know. But as soon as I told you everything, I felt better. It felt right."
A smile formed on my lips and I finally opened my eyes. Alice's face was turned as she wiped all of her tears away with the back of her hand.
"I love you Thomas. I love you for you and nothing else."
"I love you too." I croaked, surprised that my voice sounded so dry and weak.
Alice turned her head quickly towards me, jumping slightly when she got a fright from my sudden voice. Her eyes were wide but they immediately softened when they came into contact with mine. They were glistening from the water that had welled up at the corners and her lips had formed into a heartwarming smile.
"Thomas...how long have you been awake?"
"Since you came in." I grinned as her eyes widened again and a scarlet shade tinted her cheeks.
"Why didn't you open your eyes and, oh I don't know, tell me you're awake before I start pouring my heart out to you!"
She blushed more violently now but laughed happily while reaching out for my hand. I wrapped mine tightly around hers and smiled again.
"It's okay, I liked listening."
"Of course you did."
I chuckled lightly in response before coughing a little. Alice started to get up in worry but I beckoned her back down again, insisting that I was completely fine.
"...I'm glad you opened up to me."
"I'm glad you opened up to me." She said softly.
"...I wonder what would have happened if we never met..."
My voice was a whisper when I spoke and both of our eyes turned grave as the thought passed through our minds.
"You would have shied away from everyone and ended up getting expelled for punching someone in the face...and I would have continued living in my own personal bubble but die later after going to the orphanage alone."
