Chapter 44: Miscommunication

* Alice's POV *

I awoke from my slumber at the sound of a door closing. When I looked around, I saw everyone taking their seats around my bed.

"What are you all doing here? I told you to go home."

"We did.

"And then we came back."

Luke let out a yawn which made me look at everyone more closely. They all had purple circles under their tired eyes.

"You didn't have to do that, you all need more sleep!"

"We did get sleep."

"Just not as much."

I huffed and looked at the wall- that's all I seemed to do in this stupid hospital...

"I'm guessing you don't want to talk about Thomas..."

My head snapped up and turned towards them in one sharp movement. Tears brimmed in my eyes making them glassy.

"...not really." There was a lump in my throat making it hard to swallow.

"I'm sorry."

"We know it's hard, especially for you."

"We all care about him."

I stared at them with an expressionless mask on my face.

"The person I love the most is...is...d..."

I couldn't say it. I couldn't say he was dead out loud; it was too hard.

"D?"

"I-I can't..."

My hand was placed over my mouth and my eyes were squeezed tightly shut, trying not to let tears escape from them.

"Alice...d-do you think Thomas is..."

I started sobbing- brilliant, as if I hadn't done enough of that already.

"Why Thomas? I loved him so much!"

"Alice."

"I don't think I can go on without him."

"Alice."

"He was my everything!"

"Alice!"

They all shouted my name together, which shut me up as I stared at them in confusion and hurt.

"W-what?!"

"We're you going to say dead? As in Thomas is dead?"

I slowly nodded my head and when I did, a look of horror replaced the confused faces of my friends. My eyebrows knitted together and befuddlement was clear on my face.

"Alice...Thomas...Thomas isn't...dead."

Everything stopped moving at that moment. I must have been dreaming. This couldn't have been happening. Thomas was dead. He was shot and bled to death! I saw it!

"...n-no...your wrong...h-he's gone..."

The last thing I saw before I started shaking violently and doctors rushed through the doors were my friends' shocked faces. After that, I fainted and everything went black.

After I awoke from my sudden blackout, the memories came flashing back. When they did, my heart beat fast against my chest and I felt physically sick.

"Alice, you fainted." Penny squeezed my hand while Olivia sat up in her chair.

I couldn't speak...not yet, I had to make sure I wasn't about to vomit first.
