Chapter 11- Lost it All
After the interview, they went back to the bus to get ready and put on their war paint. Ashley, as usual, took the longest, so he got ready first. Once he was done, he brought Abbie over to the back of the bus to do her war paint. He lined her right eye with a thick black line, and covered the entire lid of her left eye with eyeliner. Then, he painted the right half of her lip black and drew a smile-like curve starting from the right corner of her lips to the joint that connected her jaw and covered it with vertical lines, making her look like she had half a Chelsea’s smile. He covered the other half of her lips with bright red lipstick, making the black pop.
“Wow,” Abbie breathed once he had finished.
“You like it?” he smiled.
She nodded. “Just like old times… only less hooves,” she whispered. He hugged her tightly before he took her out to show the others. When Andy saw her, Abbie could’ve sworn he looked like he was going to cry for a second.
“You look great!” Ella exclaimed.
“Ella’s a model. You have no idea how much of a compliment that is,” Jake whispered. Abbie beamed.
“I owe it all to my wonderful make-up artist, Purdy Pants,” she explained with a smile, motioning towards Ashley. He blushed.
“I hate to ruin the mood but you guys are on in twenty minutes, you need to get backstage!” John exclaimed.
“Right,” Andy nodded. They all rushed off the bus.
“C’mon kid! Let’s get to the main stage!” Ella exclaimed, putting her hand on Abbie’s back. She nodded and walked with them to the stage.
Abbie’s jaw dropped when they got there. There were so many people she doubted they’d ever be able to see them, but to Abbie’s surprise, Ella and Lauren walked right past everyone and to the barricade.
“Hey, Joe,” Ella said plainly as he let the three through. The space was so tight between the body guards guarding the barricades and the stage Abbie had to suck in the little fat she had to get to where they were supposed to stand. On stage, a band was finishing their last song. Abbie assumed they were ‘Sleeping with Sirens.’ She tapped her toes to the music, listening to the lyrics the lead singer’s high-pitched voice sang loudly and clearly. Abbie was amazed how well they got into the music. It reminded her of when Andy had sang “Mortician’s Daughter” back at camp. When they finished and exited the stage, the curtains closed.
“Is it too loud?” Ella asked. Abbie shook her head. She had been able to adjust her ears to the perfect volume. It wierded her out slightly, since she’d never been able to do that before, but she didn’t think much of it since it was convenient for her.
“Abbie!” Sammi walked over to them. “Sorry I’m late, I just got off the stage ten minutes ago! How’d you like Sleeping with Sirens?” she smiled.
“They’re great. They really love the music they play. You can tell by the way they perform.”
Sammi smiled. “You picked all that up, huh?”
“I’m getting used to how people act. I’ve been quiet hiding in nature for most of my life. You learn how to pick up the tiniest of details,” Abbie explained, making sure no one else heard. Sammi nodded.
“Nice make-up, by the way!” Sammi added cheerily.
“You, too!” she replied. They quieted down as the crowd roared to life as the curtains slowly slid open. CC walked onstage to his drum kit, making the crowd scream with excitement. Next Jinxx, Jake, and Ashley walked on, the crowd cheering louder with every person. Finally, Andy walked out, getting the loudest cheers of all. They started off with a song Abbie knew well- Wretched and Divine. They looked like they were having fun and lost themselves in the music, bringing the audience into the magical trance, too. Soon even Abbie found herself sucked into it, but she loved it. She never wanted it to end. After a few more songs, they started playing a song Abbie didn’t recognize.
