Chapter 16- One Day
The next morning, Andy took Abbie out to walk around the venue while the roadies were setting up.
“You should attend the meet and greet with us, sign some things,” he said mindlessly playing with a loose string on his shirt.
“Why? You guys are in the band. The BVB Army is here to see you guys, not me,” she said, looking around to try to get her bearings about which tent was which. It was hard to tell without them being fully built, but she was learning fairly quickly.
“Don’t doubt yourself. A lot of fans saw you’re performance online and that video that one girl took of you. What was her name, Casey?”
“She took a video?”
“Yeah, but that’s not the point. I saw the tweets. They want to meet you, Abbie. You may even say that you became famous over night,” he smiled, proud.
“That’s only because I’m your daughter and performed with you. They wouldn’t care less if I was a random stranger.”
“Maybe they would, maybe they wouldn’t. You’ll never know. You should come. It’ll be fun. After all you’re just signing things and saying ‘hi’ to people. That’s not so hard.”
“I guess, but the horse in me… Now that I shifted again after a long time, she’s going to be anxious to get out again. She could take over at any second-”
“Don’t worry. Nothing bad is going to happen to you. If we need to, I can get our head security guard on it. If he sees anything that could trigger extreme emotion, he’ll take you as far away from the crowd as possible.” Abbie still wasn’t sure, but it was hard to disagree with his reassuring smile and the pride he had in showing her off to the Army. Still, she wondered if it was really a good idea or not.
As they made their way back to the bus, the scary man from the band was walking in the opposite direction a few yards away. Abbie positioned herself on the other side of Andy, partially hiding behind him.
“What’s wrong he asked?” following her line of sight.
“Oh, nothing,” Abbie laughed nervously.
“Oh! You’re scared of that guy? Don’t be. He’s just my friend, Chris,” he laughed.
“Me? Scared? Nah. I just don’t want to get a sun burn,” Abbie said, eyeing the man.
“Hey, Chris!” Andy said, causing the man to look towards them.
“Hey Andy!” he shouted in return, walking towards them.
“Not cool man, not cool!” Abbie said, running away from the two. She managed to find her way back to the bus without getting lost too many times, and raced inside, running right into Danny.
“Hey little Biersack,” he said, looking down at the frightened girl.
“Oh come on!” Abbie practically shouted, looking at Ashley.
“Nice to see you too,” he chuckled.
“What’s wrong?” Ashley asked.
“Nothing, Purdy Pants. It’s just that I keep running into random band members and it’s starting to irritate me,” she sighed.
“Purdy Pants?” Danny laughed.
“Shut up, Worsnop,” Ashley said, before turning to Abbie. “You do realize that there are thousands of girls out in the world that would’ve killed you if they heard you say that, right?”
“They could try…” Abbie trailed off, glancing at Danny.
“So are you doing the meet and greet or not?” Ashley asked, sitting down on one of the couches. She sat down next to him.
“People really asked about meeting me?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. He smiled and nodded.
“Oh, come on, Little Biersack! Your fans need you,” Danny exclaimed, sitting down next to her.
“I guess. I mean I’ll have to get used to it eventually,” she sighed.
“You’re gonna want to be happy about it, Abbie. They expect enthusiasm, joy, happiness! They look up to you!” Andy said, walking into the bus.
“No, they look up to you. They only want to meet me because I’m your daughter. Last week they didn’t even know you had a daughter,” she reminded him.
“Well, Ben and I have press to meet with. See you guys!” Danny said, walking out of the bus.
“You need to stop doubting yourself. One day, they’re going to stop liking Black Veil Brides, forget the lyrics to all our songs, forget our names and what we play, even forget about what we look like. But their children will look up to you. The other thirteen year olds will, the kids that are thirteen when you’re twenty. This is just the start of it,” Andy smiled.
“One day,” Abbie repeated.
“So will you do it?” Ashley asked, flashing her a smile.
“Yeah, sure, why not?” Abbie said, standing up and stretching.
“Good. We have an hour. Be ready,” he told her. She nodded. She went to her room to get herself ready.
“By the way, do you want to come on stage with us again?” Andy asked. She nodded.
“Ok. We go on almost directly after the Meet and Greet,” he told her. She nodded again and walked into her room. She pulled out liquid eye liner that Sammi had given her and put it on, concentrating on neatly outlining her blue eyes. She smiled at herself and gave a quick nod, then brushed through her hair and walked back out to the front of the bus.
“Is that what I think it is?” Andy asked. Abbie shrugged and sat down next to him.
“Better watch out, Andy, you won’t be able to hold onto her for much longer,” Ashley said, nudging him.
“Yeah. Even with the five of us we won’t be able to keep to boys away,” Jinxx said, patting Abbie’s head.
“I know. It scares me,” Andy sighed.
“You don’t have to worry. I’m not interested in anyone right now,” Abbie said, patting her dad on the head.
“Besides Jess!” CC chirped, jumping up from out of no where.
“Shut up!” she said, her cheeks turning a bright shade of red.
“Abbie’s got a crush!” Ashley sang.
“Keep it up and you’ll be crushed,” she muttered. He backed down quickly and hid behind Jinxx.
“Time to start getting ready, boys,” Jake said, walking onto the bus with Ella at his side. They all filed into the back of the bus, leaving Abbie and Ella.
“Hey, can I talk to you?” Ella asked, sitting down next to Abbie. She nodded.
“So, this whole… horse thing. How long has it been going on?” Abbie smiled.
“I was born with it,” she said, a hint of pride in her voice.
“Are there others like you, or are you the only one?” Ella asked, with great interest in her eyes.
“I actually told your boyfriend all this, but,” Abbie paused and took a deep breath. She stared at a spot on the carpet and sighed, her mood suddenly changing. “I was born on a different planet, full of creatures like me. It was rather tiny, no bigger than this country, if that, so we weren’t the biggest population in the universe, but now it’s only me.” Ella nodded. Abbie could tell she wanted to ask more, but wasn’t going to.
“Alright!” Andy exclaimed as he burst through the door, lightening the mood again. “who’s ready for a meet and greet?”
