Chapter 43- No More
“Why?” Andy asked. Abbie looked down. She couldn’t tell him the truth, he’d be hurt even more. Before she could even open her mouth to answer, he grabbed her arm and looked at her wrist, inspecting it for the truth.
“Andy!” Jinxx rushed out of the studio. Both of them turned towards the frantic-looking guitarist. “We couldn’t hold him. We have to leave. Now.” Ashley burst through the door and ran towards Andy’s car.
“We’ll talk about this at home,” he whispered, running towards the car. Abbie looked at the door, then started to run towards the car. A few feet away from the vehicle, she felt something hit her from behind and saw the ground rushing towards her face.
“Didn’t think you’d get away that easy did you, pony girl?” Andy started to race towards them, but stopped when the girl’s ex-torturer pulled out knife and held it up to her neck. “Be careful, while you chose pens, I chose the knife. Much easier to do my job with this. Don’t take a step closer, Prophet, or I’ll do it. I’ve done it once, I won’t be afraid to do it again,” he taunted.
“This time I can fight back!” Abbie screamed, growing into a horse and rearing before Gus had time to react. He slid off her back in shock and was soon pinned to the ground by the fifteen hundred pound beast. Abbie’s ears twitched toward the sound of a scream that sounded a lot like Chris’ in his songs. Abbie’s eyes widened when she saw a rather large demon, or rather, Chris’ “true form.” She took a step back. His body was encased in a black substance with a thickness similar to blood, that stopped just over his belly button. Long, sharp horns protruded from either side of his head, and black wings flowed out of his shoulder blades, much like a flower with only two big petals.
“I thought you could detect demons,” Andy whispered.
“So did I. Unless he’s a higher-up I should’ve been able to-” she cut herself off. “That’s why I had a bad feeling about him at first! He must be extraordinarily powerful.” He towered over Abbie, as if expecting her to move out of the way.
“Please, I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“I’m sorry, I need to do this myself, but you can have his soul,” she whispered, trying to keep her fear under control. Besides when she was tortured, demons had been the cause of all of her deaths, leaving her nervous around one’s presence. He nodded and moved to the side. She bent down so her face was so close to Gus’ they were almost touching. “Don’t worry, you won’t matter much. You’re not even good enough to be human, Brad,” she spat mockingly in his face.
“Please, like a thing like you can really beat me,” he laughed. She lifted her back hoof and stomped down on his thigh. The sound rang out like a twig snapping, and was followed by an agitated scream. Much to Abbie’s surprise, the leg glowed and seemed to fix itself. “That’s right. We have similar powers, only mine are better,” he said.
“Only means Chris’ll have a new pet,” she shrugged, winking at the demon. She reared up and put all of her weight on his skull, crushing it instantly and splattering its contents over the pavement. She nodded and quickly moved out of the way for Chris to harvest Gus’ soul and store it in the underworld forever before he could wake up again. It wouldn’t kill him, but it’d keep him from being able to walk the mortal world ever again. Either way, Abbie was sure she’d never see his slimy, beady eyes ever again.
