Chapter 6- IPhone
Abbie woke up to Andy staring at her. She screamed and jumped back, almost falling off her bed.
“Geeze, Andy! I thought we were done with this whole sleeping in the same bed thing since you have your own bed and we established that I’m thirteen!” She exclaimed.
“Shh! You’re going to wake Juliet up!” Andy whispered. “And we have Warped Tour packing to do. We leave in three days.” Abbie sat up and rubbed her eyes.
“Has it really been that long?” she asked, looking at her clock.
“Indeed it has. And we need to check out the bus tomorrow and party the day after that, so we need to pack today,” he said, looking over her room.
“Party? Sounds like we have a busy few days ahead of us!” Abbie smiled, climbing out of her bed and making it quickly.
“Only if you promise to eat,” Andy said. Abbie still didn’t eat as much as Andy liked, but she felt like she was eating too much. She was worried she was going to get used to eating a lot, and then starve if she ever had to go back to the wild.
“I promise,” Abbie sighed, rolling her eyes.
“Good. Meet me in the kitchen when you’re ready. Pancakes and Ashley should be here soon.” Ashley had been eagerly sharing their pancakes with himself ever since Abbie first got there. Abbie had become used to it, like he was a brother. She heard the door open and Ashley’s cheery, morning voice and smelled the sweet pancakes. She skipped out of her room and gave Ashley a hug, then sat down at her usual spot on the couch.
“Warped Tour in three days, baby! Packing today, tour bus tomorrow and party the day after!” Ashley exclaimed, handing Abbie a plate with three pancakes drowned in maple syrup piled on it.
“Don’t forget music and fans!” Andy added, sitting down on the other side of Abbie.
“And… other… stuff,” Abbie said slowly, trying to think. Ashley looked at her with an eyebrow cocked.
“What? I’ve never been on a tour before! How would I know what it’s like?” Abbie protested.
“I can tell you one thing: you are getting the room,” Andy said, looking at Ashley.
“What?” Ashley grinned.
“Yeah, what?” Abbie asked, smiling smugly at Andy.
“Uh… oh, you know… that thing that you like to do with girls,” Andy stuttered.
“No, I don’t think I do,” Ashley smiled. Abbie finished two of her pancakes and gave the last one to Ashley, then went to her room to get ready, saving Andy from having an awkward conversation with her. She put on a pair of black skinny jeans and an IAMX band shirt, and brushed through her hair. She was about to start packing when Juliet walked in the room. They had grown closer in the few weeks Abbie had been there, but Abbie could still tell Juliet didn’t like her very
much.
“Need help packing?” Juliet asked. Abbie had to admit, she was starting to act a lot more like a mother figure.
“No, I think I got it,” she replied, pulling out her black duffle bag. Juliet nodded.
“You know where to find me.” Abbie nodded and opened her bag. She looked inside. Her old practice uniform was still neatly folded in it. She smiled to herself and put it in her dresser. She gasped when she saw a torn, pink t-shirt she knew all too well crumbled at the bottom of the bag. She lifted it up and bit her lip. She had mixed feelings for the tattered rag of a shirt. It was stained with redish-brown patches splattered all over it. She knew it well, blood. Not just any blood, but her own. She wiped away the droplets of water that fell down her cheeks and threw the shirt, as well as her old, ripped jean shorts, into the dresser and slammed it shut. She filled her bag high with underwear, jeans, shorts, and t-shirts. The bag managed to fit all of her belongings, so she walked into the living room.
“All set?” Andy asked. He looked at her shirt and shook his head.
“Sammi got you that, didn’t she?” She nodded and smiled. Sammi had told her all about her band when she gave her the shirt, and Abbie liked their music.
“Come on. We have one more thing we need to do today,” Andy told her.
“Cool. What is it?” she asked. Juliet smiled to herself.
“You’ll see,” he smirked.
“Please tell me it’s not another meeting!” she exclaimed, remembering the last one with Andy’s friend, Danny. He almost scared the horse right out of her.
“Don’t worry,” he laughed. They met Ashley in the hall and walked out to the parking lot.
“I assume he knows where we’re going,” Abbie said, nodding to Ashley.
“That’s right,” Ashley grinned.
“And I also assume that you aren’t going to tell me, either,” she muttered.
“Man, Andy. You raised a genius!” he exclaimed, reaching back and patting Abbie on the head. She sighed. “Oh, cheer up, horse girl! You’ll love it. Well… at least, I think you will. Most girls dream of
these types of things,” he added.
“Shut up, Ashley!” Andy said between clenched teeth. He stuck out his tongue at Andy then crossed his arms. After a few minutes, they pulled into a Best Buy parking lot.
“Care to tell me what’s going on?” Abbie asked. Ashley looked at Andy and bit his lip, his chocolate brown eyes wide with excitement. Andy shook his head.
“Please?” Ashley begged.
“Fine, what ever!” Andy muttered.
“Abbie, you’re getting a cell phone!” he exclaimed. Abbie looked at him blankly.
“That’s what you’re so excited about? A cell phone?” she asked. Andy laughed.
“It’s an iPhone, like mine,” he told her. She smiled. He let her play with his phone a few times when he was talking with his friends or knew she would be bored, and she liked it. She especially liked all the games on it. They walked into the store and picked out a phone. Abbie chose a Black Veil Brides case, which made Ashley practically squeal for joy. They were soon back at their apartment and charging her new phone.
“So… why did you get me a phone, exactly?” Abbie asked, looking at the shiny new black case.
“Because Warped Tour is a dangerous place, and I want you to be able to contact me if you need to,” he replied. She nodded and sat down on his lap, cuddling against his chest.
“Why are you always so cold?” she asked, placing her warm hands to his cheeks.
“The real question is why are you always so warm?” he replied, touching her forehead.
“Geeze! Your hands are too cold! Andy!” she exclaimed, jumping up. He laughed.
“They aren’t that cold,” he shrugged. When the phone was done charging, he programmed his number in, as well as the rest of the band’s, Juliet’s and Sammi’s.
“Ok, now go to bed,” he said, looking at the time. It was almost ten already. She nodded and trudged off to her room.
