Chapter 18- A Colorful Reunion
The name echoed throughout the venue as if it was an empty house. He smiled, his straight raven hair in his eyes. Her heart pounded in her chest. Andy looked at the boy, then his daughter. Jinxx stopped playing and looked at both of them. Everybody backstage quietly mumbled to each other, everyone confused. The crowd murmured and looked around the venue, trying to figure out who the ‘Jess’ boy was.
“S-Sorry,” Abbie stuttered again, shaking her head. Andy walked over to her.
“Do you want to go?” he whispered. She shook her head.
“I can do the song,” she reassured him.
“Are you sure?”
“I owe it to them,” she replied, nodding towards the crowd. He nodded and told Jinxx to restart. This time, as she sang the song, she got more into it. She kept her eyes on him, and he watched her. The song was made for them, it was them. She loved it as much as they loved each other. She wasn’t on a performance high this time, but she had butterflies in her stomach and her heart fluttered its wings with joy. As soon as she finished the song, she ran off stage and practically threw the microphone at the stage manager.
“Take it easy there, lovebird,” he chuckled as she rushed passed him and right into Jess. She was surprised at how fast he was able to get up to her, but didn’t question it. She was just glad to see him. She wrapped her arms tightly around him as he did the same to her.
“I missed you,” she whispered into his chest. He kissed the top of her head.
“I know,” he replied, his voice muffled by her hair. Abbie heard the snaps of cameras and the “aww’s” of fans watching them, but she didn’t care. They pulled away from each other and looked into one another’s eyes, saying nothing but telling each other everything. It seemed like the two months they had been separated was two hundred years. Jess placed his hand under her chin and leaned forward, practically shoving their faces together into a kiss. Abbie closed her eyes and smiled into it, sparks flew everywhere. Her heart flipped around in its place. She smiled and looked up at him again.
“What about the others? Don’t they live around here?” Abbie asked, looking around. Jess nodded.
“They’re here, but I wanted to surprise you, besides, I have something I need to ask your dad,” he smiled a small, cute smile. Abbie eyed him.
“Don’t you think we’re a little young to get married?” Abbie asked, laughing nervously. He laughed and shook his head.
“No that! It’s something else,” he explained
“Can you tell me?”
“Nope!” His face twisted into a cute, evil smile. It made her want to slap him and smile back at the same time.
“Why not?” She pouted, crossing her arms and giving him her classic puppy dog face. It had come in handy on the rare occasion that she had to beg for food back when she had to live in the wilderness.
“It’s a surprise!” he exclaimed, ignoring the face.
“But you know I hate surprises!” she exclaimed, dropping the face. It was clear it wasn’t going to work on him.
“Yeah, I know, but that’s what’ll make it even better!” he said, his smile widening to a big grin. Abbie sighed. He was right. Good surprises were always made better with a wait, but not knowing made her crazy, partly because she spent the first twelve years of her life not trusting anyone or anything. Well, she trusted everything up until she was captured from her planet when she was only five. Even before then, she hated surprises, even if they were rare.
