Chapter 37- Jinxx
Abbie woke up to the sound of her own screams. She’d been doing the same thing for a week. She’s wake up screaming, Sammi would rush in and calm her down, then make both of them breakfast. Abbie’s appetite had been able to increase to a full pancake three times a day, and was slowly gaining muscle mass by running the trails in the woods. Abbie expected Sammi to burst through the door, but she didn’t. The young girl wiped her eyes and slid out of her bed. She quickly made it and rushed out of her room to find Jinxx on the couch in the living room and Sammi making her usual pancakes.
“Jinxx?” Abbie questioned, looking at Sammi.
“We decided we’re going to alternate weeks,” Jinxx explained.
“Alternate weeks?”
“You’re going to his house for a week, then coming back to mine, and so on and so forth,” Sammi said. Abbie nodded and smiled at Jinxx. He smiled back and held out his arms. She ran into them and hugged him tightly.
“Must’ve been some nightmare, huh?” he whispered.
“You have no idea,” she replied. She pulled away and studied his eyes. They were sunken in and he looked skinnier then he had before she was kidnapped.
After quickly scarfing down her breakfast, Abbie packed a small duffle bag with a week’s worth of clothes and said good bye to Sammi, then left with Jinxx. He helped her into his black convertible and drove off towards his house. Abbie closed her eyes and smiled into the wind. It felt almost as good as galloping through the trees of a forest.
After a half an hour, Jinxx pulled into his driveway. His house was considerably big and had a large yard. The next house was a considerable distance away, so she wouldn’t have to worry about people seeing her. After he turned off the car, Jinxx sat back and looked at her. She tilted her head.
“Listen, I know it’s only been a week, but we’re going to try to help you. Andy misses you, he loves you, Abbie. He wants to be able to live with you and be your dad again one day,” he said. Abbie shivered when he mentioned her brother.
“But he’s not my dad. I told you, he’s my brother,” she whispered, “and you’re my cousin. We’re all connected.”
“How do you know that?”
“Brad told me.” Jinxx’s eyes widened.
“Brad?” Abbie looked down at her hands.
“That’s what I called him. He never told me his name. I’m sorry if it’s wrong, but I didn’t want to call him ‘guy’ or ‘man.’” Tears welled up in her eyes.
“No, no, it’s ok. But how do you know… Brad was telling the truth?” He rubbed her back comfortingly. She rubbed her eyes and looked back up at him.
“He killed me and everything was confirmed.” He looked straight ahead. She looked down again. “Jinxx?” He quickly got out of his car.
“Come on, you need to unpack before we start.” Abbie got out of the car, head down. She followed him into his house and up a flight of stairs. He showed her into a room with various Black Veil Brides posters, a bed covered in a Black Veil Brides bed spread and plushies, and CDs lined one of the shelves. She squeaked and ran into the wall opposite of the door, sliding down to the floor. She pulled her knees to her chest and closed her eyes, shaking her head. Her whole body quivered. She felt a hand on her shoulder and flinched, turning her head away. His arms wrapped around her. She tried to pull away, but his grip only got tighter, pulling her into his chest. She burried her face in his shirt, tears dripping down her cheeks.
“It’s ok, I have a spare room you can stay in,” he whispered. Her entire body shook.
“Can I please go outside?” she asked quietly. He nodded and let her go. She slowly and cautiously walked down the stairs and outside into Jinxx’s large back yard. She had to admit, it was bigger than she thought it was going to be. There weren’t any trees, but at least she could gallop around. Sammi made her stay in her sight at all times, which didn’t allow the mare to be able to gallop like she wanted to. She grew into a mare and reared up, jumping into a gallop and not bothering warming up. She didn’t care if she pulled something. The wind blew across her face and played with her hair. She smiled and raced around the yard. Something felt different. Her strides and legs felt longer, leaner. She increased her speed, her hooves thundering over the grassy terrain. She wanted to keep going forever, and she would have, too, had she not heard the bang of a closing car door. She skidded to a stop and practically ran into the fence. Her ears swiveled back and forth, trying to pick up sound. Jinxx greeted the person at the door. It sounded like only one, and it was a familiar female voice with an accent Abbie couldn’t quite place. She backed away from the house and eyed the back door suspiciously. As they got closer, she got farther. By the time Jinxx and Ella opened the door, the mare was not a mare anymore, but a young thirteen year old girl, and she was hiding behind a few over grown bushes in the back corner of Jinxx’s yard. She trusted Jinxx, but she didn’t know what to think about Ella. Her head throbbed. She held it in her hands and closed her eyes, careful not to make a sound.
