Chapter 16

(Hayes' POV)

"Flight now boarding to California." The speaker announces, I sigh and grab Coles hand.

"Where's mommy?" He asks me and I point to her coming up beside him, he smiles and runs to her.

"Hey baby." She smiles, she looks to me and I give her a small smile, she smiles back and I help her with her luggage, we give the attendant our bags and she carries them off, we get seated with Cameron and Danielle.

"Hey." He says bro hugging me, I nod back and wave to Danielle who hides her face in Cameron's shirt.

"Daddy I'm scared." Halley says gripping onto my shirt, I laugh and wrap my arm around her.

"Daddy's here baby. I've got you." I say kissing her forehead, she looks up at me with fear in her face.

"Forever?" She asks me, I smile and nod.

"Forever and ever." I smile down at her, the thunder crackles and she hides her face back into my arm.

"Hayes?" Cameron asks snapping me out of my head, I nod and he nods looking down to Danielle, I lean back and fall asleep.

"Mom." I say with a smile, she hugs me and I hug her tightly.

"I'm gonna miss that bright smile of hers." She cries into my shoulder, I sigh and rub her back.

"Me too." I say nodding, Katie comes in saying something but stops when she sees us.

"Oh, I'll just come back later." She says awkwardly, we agreed not to tell anyone about, that.

"Wait, no." My mom speaks up and I look down at her.

"Is there something wrong with you guys?" She asks noticing the tension, my mom figures everything out so I'm not surprised.

"No, mom. There is nothing wrong." I say shaking my head, she gives me a look and I give her a look back and she slaps me lightly.

"I didn't raise my boys to be liars." She says angrily and I make a psh sound.

"Then you failed with Nash." I say and she smacks me again.

"Don't talk about your brother that way." She says madly and I shrug looking at Katie.

"But don't worry I'll get to the bottom of this." She says pointing in between us, I roll my eyes as she walks out and look to Katie.

"So what'd you need?" I ask her and she pauses before looking out the door and coming in.

"I don't know if I can do this Hayes, see everyone. I mean we're back where it all started, what if more drama comes and things get worse? My exes are here, yours are here, this isn't going to work." She says worriedly, I close my eyes sighing, I sit down on the bed end and pat my lap, she sits on me and wraps her arms around me.

"Baby, we're only here for a couple of days, besides we're not going to just blow up over nothing and hate each other. Katilyn I love you, and only you." I say, she smiles lightly and I kiss her neck.

"Now I know it's going to be hard, but think happy, she's gone, yes. We're gonna miss her, yes. But I think she would want us all to be happy." I say and she nods slightly smiling, I grab her head and kiss her forehead.

"Thank you Hayes." She smiles and I smile back.

"Anytime baby. It's what I'm here for, you, and only you." I say grazing my hand over her cheek, she blushes and I kiss her on her lips this time, and I do mean that, I love her more than I can ever love anyone, she's special, there is no doubting that. I swear she'll be the best thing I've ever had.

(Katie's POV)

My forehead rests upon his and I kiss his nose, waking him up.

"Oh, what a great way to wake up." He says and I smile as he kisses me.

"Today is it. Today we say rest in peace to our little girl." I say tearing up at the thought, he tilts his head and his eyes turn glossy as well.

"Happiness, remember?" He smiles and I nod wiping a fallen tear off of my cheek.

"Mom, how does this look?" She asks me coming out in a beautiful sun flower dress.

"So adorable. Almost kind of like me when I was your age." I smile, she smiles widely and looks down at the ground.

"But you had Uncle Matt and Hayes when you were my age, I'm just a rat to boys." She says shaking her head and my lips part.

"Hals, you look just like me. There is no way you don't have boys at your feet, or maybe they're scared to talk to you." I smile cocking my eyebrow, she blushes smiling and nods.

"Thanks mom." She smiles walking up to me, before I can say anything she engulfs me in a hug and I smile kissing her cheek.

"Did you hear me?" Madison says snapping me from my thoughts, I turn and see her standing at the foot of my bed.

"No, what?" I ask her and she rolls her eyes holding up to dresses.

"Which?" She asks me, I look at both and point to the black high-low dress with a gold rimming around the necklace.

"That one, the other one looks like a hookers dress." I say nodding, she scoffs before looking at it and nodding.

"You're actually right." She nods and I smirk before she walks out, I get up and go to the shower, I get in and out quickly, I am done finishing my hair and makeup when Matthew knocks at the open door, I nod telling him he can come in and he shuts the door behind himself before sitting on the bed.

"What's up?" I ask him putting on my diamond studded earrings, he takes a long and deep breath as I walk over to my suitcase for my dress.

"I miss her Kay, I didn't even get to see her or talk to her. She was once my child too you know? And I just feel like I should've been there. Like I know it's been a long time, but we were together once, she was called my child once. I just wish I could reverse time and go back to it, that's when my life was at its highest peak." He says nodding and I am already sitting down beside him at this point.

"But you're so rich and successful now? Isn't this your highest peak in life? Why is that?" I ask him and he looks down at me.

"Because I had my two favorite girls in the entire world, and I'm at this point where I've lost them both." He says and I start to get emotional. Of course I still love Matthew, it wasn't there when I moved to New York, but it's there now. But I have the most amazing man, and children a girl could ask for, I don't want to give that up, and I don't plan to.

"I'm really sorry Matthew." I say and he closes his eyes looking away as I do the same, it gets silent for a minute until he stands up.

"Anyway, if you need me today I'll be in the back, minding my business." He says with a little smirk, I laugh and stand up.

"I love you Katie." He says hugging me, I smile and hug him back tightly.

"Love you too Matt." I smile rubbing his back, he pulls off of me and waves as he walks out shutting the door.
