I look down at the ground and say "I'm the thing that caused you to stay?"
He nods and says "I was ready to leave, hell I almost didn't stay in the Glade long enough for you to come up. But I'm glad I did. Now I have you, and I won't have to hole up my emotions anymore because I know I can tell you anything. And you can do the same, I won't tell anyone anything you tell me."
I sigh. Do I tell him about being a werecoyote? If I tell him, he'll probably be scared of me. If I don't, he'll get mad that I didn't tell him. I can't win in this situation.
"You alright?"
I shake my head. I've gotta tell him; it's the right thing to do. "Look I-I've gotta tell you something."
He nods and says "you can tell me anything."
I sigh and say "so, remember how Minho was making all those coyote jokes? About me being half coyote and stuff?"
He nods. "Yeah?"
"Well, uh, he uh, he wasn't wrong."
He looks a little confused. "What?"
"I-I had this memory, the same night I remembered my name. In the dream I had glowing blue eyes, and claws, and fangs, and pointy ears, and I got bit by this coyote, and-"
He interrupts "so you're telling me you're actually part coyote?"
I look down and nod.
He chuckles and says "mind if I ask to see proof?"
I take a deep breath and make my eyes change to icy blue.
He stares at my eyes for a minute, then says "how did you do that?"
"Those are my werecoyote eyes. I get it, I know this is super weird. And if you wanna break up I totally-"
He interrupts "break up? Who said anything about that?"
"Aren't you scared of me?"
He looks into my eyes and shakes his head. "Only scared of losing you, love." God, he can say the cheesiest things sometimes.
I hug him and say "I love you."
"I love you too."
I make my eyes return to their normal color and sit back, because there's still intense pain flooding though my entire body. "Please just don't tell anyone."
"I already promised I wouldn't tell anyone anything you tell me."
I look at him and smile a little.
"You don't even know how scared I was."
"What scared you? My werecoyote eyes?"
He shakes his head. "You getting stung. You were asleep for six days. If you didn't wake up by tomorrow, Alby would give you to the Grievers."
"Yeah, I heard him say that." I shudder at the thought of being Griever food.
"How did it even happen, exactly?"
I sigh and say "I was running, and I heard a metallic clicking, so I hid behind some vines, and it was staring right at me, and when I tried to move it turned in that direction, then I just ran as fast as I could."
He sighs and says "you need to understand that after this, we can't let you back in the Maze."
I shake my head. "I'll be fine. I can protect myself."
"Once a Runner gets stung, they're not allowed back in the Maze. Ever. We'll find you a job here in the Glade once you're better."
"I don't want a job here in the Glade!"
He sighs again and says "Alby's already decided. Once the decision is made, there's no going back."
"Do I get any say in this?"
"Alby's in charge, love."
"You're the second-in-command! Can't you say something?!"
He looks down at the ground and doesn't respond.
"Oh my god, you don't want me to be a Runner."
"It's too dangerous, this one sting almost killed you! Do you have any idea how I'd feel if you died?"
"You don't think I can handle it. That's it, isn't it? Say it."
He shakes his head. "No, that's not it at all. I just don't want you to get hurt. You're the one thing keeping me in the Glade, I can't let you continue to run in the Maze if you could get hurt."
"So just like that, I can't run anymore? I'm done?"
He nods slightly. "I'm sorry, love."
I sigh and say "whatever. Just, go. Please."
"Alyssa I-"
I interrupt "don't call me that. Just, please go. I wanna be alone right now."
"I'm sorry."
"Please just go! I want to just sit and be alone with my thoughts."
He slowly stands up, and I can tell he's on the verge of tears. I feel bad, but I need him to go. If I get mad, I might go coyote. If I go coyote, I might hurt him. He slowly walks out of the room, and I put my head in my hands. I can't believe that I did this to him. I put him in the Box. I sent him up. I worked for WICKED. I was a Creator.
Alyssa, WICKED is good, a female voice says in my head. The same one from in the Maze.
Who are you, I think. The voice also sounds a lot like the one from my memory. The girl. That must be who it is!
Despite what you think, WICKED is good. Believe us, a male voice says in my mind. Again, the same one from the Maze, and a voice from my memory.
"WICKED is good" I quietly say to myself.
**A/N I'm so sorry I couldn't write more I was just really busy between moving and getting a D- on a biology test (that I spent 4 days studying for) and some other stuff. I'll try to get a regular posting schedule though. I'll be back to normal within a few days or so. I hope.
