Chapter 17

I sit alone in the room for hours, not bothering to eat the food that Newt brought me. After many hours, the door opens and Minho walks in.

"You're awake."

"Thanks for stating the obvious."

He chuckles and says "I'm glad to see that you're alright."

"Thanks."

"How're you feeling?"

"My body is aching like there's no tomorrow, and I'm exhausted."

"Then go to sleep."

I shake my head. "I don't wanna sleep until I talk to Chuck."

"Why Chuck?"

"Because I wanna talk to my little brother."

He nods slightly and says "I'll be right back." Before I can respond, he runs out of the room.

I sigh and lay back, still writhing in pain. A minute later the door opens again, and Chuck walks in. "Hey. Heard you wanted to talk to me?"

I nod and say "hey little bro."

He rolls his eyes and says "is that the kind of conversation we're gonna have?"

I laugh and say "relax, I'm kidding."

He sits near my head and says "how're you feeling?"

"A little better. But it still hurts like hell."

He nods and says "yeah, they said it'll be that way for a while."

"I think you've been here long enough at this point, what job did you get?"

"I just did the last one today, they pick tomorrow."

I nod and say "well let me know what you get?"

He nods and says "yeah."

I smile a little and say "anything interesting happen while I was out?"

He shakes his head. "No, nothing. I think tomorrow they're also gonna pick your new job."

I roll my eyes and say "I don't need a new job. Either I run, or I leave."

"Please don't leave. Don't leave me here with these people. They're crazy."

I laugh a little and say "they're not that bad."

He shakes his head. "You can't leave. What about me? And Newt? And Minho?"

"You'll all get along just fine without me here. I'm just in the way."

"No you're not." Two voices say this at the exact same time. The door opens again and Newt walks in.

"Newt, go away."

He shakes his head. "You're not in the way. I refuse to leave until you realize that."

I sigh and say "can you please just stop? I'm trying to talk to my brother."

"Not if your plan for yourself contains suicide. Do you not remember what I told you? You're the only reason I'm still here. If you go, I'll probably go too. Please, you can't kill yourself. Please, I'm begging you. I'll leave you alone and if you're mad at me then break up with me but you can't leave. Please, I love you. Stay."

"We'll talk about this later please just go and let me talk with my brother."

He sighs and says "only if I can talk to you after he leaves."

"Fine, just go for now."

He slowly nods and walks out of the room.

Chuck says "what's going on with you and him?"
