Chapter 27

My eyes slowly open, and I see Clint pulling a syringe out of my chest.

"Are you're sure this won't hurt her?" I hear Newt ask.

"Not at all," Clint answers.

I sit up. "Hey."

Newt hugs me. "Thank god that stuff didn't kill you."

"What stuff?"

Clint says "the Creators sent up a box labeled use on Coyote."

Ava Paige said she's send that with Thomas. "So I take that as the new Greenie arrived?"

Newt nods. "Just a few minutes ago. Alby's showing him around right now."

"Can I get up and go outside?"

"Will I need to teach you how to walk?"

I shrug. "Don't know."

He chuckles and says "let's see if you can stand first."

I suddenly get a really bad feeling in my stomach. I squeeze my eyes shut and hug my arms around my waist.

"Clint, she looks like she's gonna be sick! Get something!"

I throw my hand over my mouth as I feel the vomit rising.

"CLINT!"

Clint grabs a small trash barrel and hands it to me.

I put my head over the trash bin and let all the throw up come out. Part of it is a sickly black color, and that really scares me.

Once I'm done I put the bin down and wipe my mouth. "Thanks... sorry about that."

"Probably just the medicine."

I shrug and swing my legs off the bed, standing up. I topple at first, but I regain my balance after a moment. I take a few steps towards the door of the small hut, and I turn to Clint. "Can I go?"

He nods. "Yeah. But if you get sick again, come right back."

I nod and walk out of the small hut, out into the fresh air. I take a deep breath and look around. I see Chuck running towards me yelling "LYSS!"

I smile and run towards him. "CHUCKIE!" When we collide I hug him so tight I'm surprised he could still breathe. And I guess I'm supposed to have super strength or something, so the fact that I don't suffocate him really surprises me.

"You better?"

"I'm all better Chuck."

He hugs me tight. "Good. C'mon, come meet the Greenie!" He pulls away from the hug and leads me by the hand over to the watch tower. I never got the chance to go up there...

"Hey Alby!" Chuck calls up.

Alby looks down and says "hey Chuck. Where've you been, man?" He sees me and says "Look who's finally awake! Welcome back, Coyote. You gonna start doing your part so we can keep ya?"

"You bet I am!" I smile up at him.

Another guy looks down from the watch tower and says "your name is Coyote?"

"Well, Alyssa, but Coyote is what I originally remembered." I look over at the Greenie, and my heart nearly stops when I see its Thomas. "So Greenie, you get a name yet?"

He shakes his head. I wanna tell him that his name is Thomas, but something's keeping me from doing so.

Chuck pulls on my sleeve until I look back at him. "I've gotta go help out the Greenie for a few but then I wanna spend the rest of the day with you, since I haven't seen you in a month. Got it?"

I chuckle and nod. "I got it. Go help the Greenie, I'll see ya around."

Alby looks at Thomas and nods, and Thomas descends the ladder. When he gets down to the bottom he asks me "that your little brother or your little boyfriend?"

I laugh and roll my eyes. "My little brother. My boyfriend's over with the medjacks."

He quickly glances at Chuck, then back to me. "I'll see you around." He and Chuck walk off.

Alby descends the ladder and says "you're working today. You're gonna be a Track-Hoe from now on."

I nod. "I was informed."

"Well, go do it."

I laugh and walk over towards the gardens. Wait... no one told me what to do. I sigh and stare at one of the plants. "Grow."

Someone behind me says "you seriously think that's going to work?"

I turn around and see Zart was the one who spoke. I shrug. "I don't really know what exactly to do."

"You could water the plants and go get some fertilizer. And there's some carrots that need to be harvested. If you could do those three things that'd be a great help."

I nod and start looking around for something to use to water the plants. I find a watering can filled with water, so I take that and begin to water the plants. I finish that after about five minutes, and I go to get some fertilizer. I remember that when I was trying this job, I was told that it's in the woods. So I go and get some in a bucket, then I bring it back and go over to the carrot section. I pick out the ones that are ready and put them all in a clean bucket. I bring the fertilizer and the carrots over to Zart and say "done." For the next few hours he has me do several jobs to help out with the Gardens.

And I don't remember a time I felt any happier.
