Chapter 30

I come down from the tree a few hours later, and go right to my hut. I see Chuck's hammock set up across from mine, him lying in it, asleep. Trying not to wake him, I silently step past him and to my hammock. I lay down and close my eyes, falling asleep almost instantly.

The following morning I wake up before Chuck. I get up and silently slip out of the hut, going to the Homestead for breakfast.

Minho walks up to me and says "I'm sor-"

I interrupt "stop. I don't wanna hear it." I push past him and go up to Frypan for my breakfast. He gives me a plate of food, and I go sit at a table.

Minho sits across from me and says "I should've stayed out of it, it's none of my business."

"I tried to tell you that but of course, you didn't listen."

"I'm sorry."

"Well whatever, you know now."

"I wasn't gonna tell anybody, I just wanted to know."

"Well, now you do."

"I know this isn't what you wanna hear but could I see some proof?"

I make my eyes turn blue and look up at him. "Don't tell anyone, especially not Alby. I don't know what he'll do."

He nods. "I won't tell, I promise."

"Thank you."

I hear the Walls begin to open and he says "there's my cue."

I nod and say "see ya later, shank."

He chuckles and walks out of the Homestead.

I finish my food quickly and sit there while everyone begins filling in around me. Soon Newt, Chuck, and Thomas all come and sit with me.

Chuck says "Alyssa, he got his name back!"

"Oh yeah? And it is?" I already know, but they don't know that I know and I can't let them know that I know.

Thomas says "I'm Thomas."

Thank god, I can address him by name now. "Hey Thomas."

We all sit and talk for a few minutes, and then when Newt finishes his breakfast he says "love I'm gonna head out now, you wanna come with me or wait for Chuck?"

"I'm gonna wait for Chuck, I'll see you in a few."

He nods and walks out of the Homestead.

A couple minutes later Chuck finishes his food and says "do I have to work?"

"Yes, you do. Go on, I'll see you later."

"If I've gotta work then so do you."

I chuckle. "I know, I've just gotta talk to Thomas for a minute. Don't tell Newt?"

He nods and walks out of the Homestead.

Thomas immediately says "do I know you?"

I sigh. "I-I don't know." Not sure if I can give that information away.

"I feel like I remember your face but... it's different. I feel like you're supposed to have another color eyes. Maybe you've got a twin or something."

I shrug. Oh god, he knows. If he finds out he's gonna tell Alby. Oh god.

"I just feel like I know you from somewhere."

I shrug again. "Maybe you do, maybe you don't. I don't know." I really wanna tell him the truth, but something won't let me.

"Well you should probably go do... whatever job you do."

I laugh and say "I'm a Track-Hoe."

"A track what?"

I laugh again and say "that's what I said at first, too. I'll see you later." I get up and head towards the Gardens.
