"What the hell is a Glade?"
Newt chuckles and says "this place is the Glade. We live here, we eat here, sleep here, work here, survive here."
I look around and say "you've got to be kidding me."
He says "no, I'm serious."
I slowly look around as people jump down into the small elevator that I came up in.
"Don't be frightened, it's happened to everyone."
I turn to him and say "I'm not frightened."
"Good."
I quietly whisper to myself "I'm terrified."
I guess I was loud enough for him to hear me, because he says "don't be terrified."
"I'm in a field of strangers, I can't remember a thing, and I think my name is Coyote. I think that's a little terrifying."
He says "we've all been there, Coyote. Everyone's been the greenie at some point. Some of us have been here for years, without knowing who we are. You'll get used to it eventually."
"Wait, years?"
He nods. "Years. Alby was the first, he spent a month alone."
"Here?"
"Here."
"Wow."
He nods again. "You hungry? You want some food?"
Before I can respond, my stomach growls at the thought of food.
He laughs and says "I take that as a yes?"
I nod and say "yeah."
He brings me over to the poorly structured building and says "this is the Homestead. Alby will tell you about it when he gives you the Tour tomorrow."
I sigh but nod.
He leads me inside, and as soon as we're inside I can smell the food.
"Food," I quietly say.
He chuckles and says "yes, food."
I say "how the hell can you hear me when I talk to myself?"
"You must not be as quiet as you think you are." He grabs a plate off a table and hands it to me.
I can smell what it is before I even look at it. It's a turkey sandwich on white bread. I look down at the plate, and that's exactly what it is. How did I know that?
He sits down at one of the tables and says "so usually we let the greenie take their first day to get settled in and relax, tomorrow you get the Tour, then the day after you start working with the different jobs."
I sit down across from him. "Ugh, work."
He laughs and says "I know, I know. But everyone's gotta do their part here."
I roll my eyes and say "what kind of work would I possibly do?"
He says "uh, there's the Cooks, the Baggers, the Sloppers, the Builders, the Runners, and the Track-Hoes."
"The track whats?"
He laughs and says "Track-Hoe. Garden workers."
I just nod and bite into my sandwich. Within a minute, I've devoured the whole thing.
"Wow you must be starving."
I nod and say "I am."
"Well, sadly no one gets seconds here. Gotta feed everyone."
