Chapter 29

Later that day, when the sun goes down and the Walls close, I go to the Homestead to get some food.

Frypan smiles at me and says "look who's finally out of bed!"

I laugh and say "yep, I'm back in action."

He gives me a plate with a lot of food on it, which is really good because I'm starving. I go sit down in a corner of the room and begin to rapidly eat my food.

Newt comes and sits across from me. "Hey love."

I smile at him. "Hey."

"It's nice to see you up and running again."

"Well being stuck in that hospital for a month wasn't a picnic for me, either."

He takes a bite of his food, and Chuck comes and sits next to me, and the Greenie across from him.

"Alyssa, this is the Greenie," Newt points to Thomas.

I nod. "I know, Chuck introduced me to him earlier."

Thomas stares at me for a moment, then looks down at his food.

Newt says "don't stare at her, Greenie. She's mine."

"I-I wasn't-"

"Yeah whatever just don't stare at my girlfriend."

"Um... sorry?"

"Yeah, you'd better be."

I chuckle and say "Newt, seriously cut it out. He wasn't checking me out."

Chuck says "at least, not the way you check her out."

Newt immediately looks up at Chuck. "You wanna shut up, Chuck?"

I laugh and say "can everyone stop fighting?"

Thomas says "excellent idea."

Alyssa, Teresa's voice rings through my head. WICKED is good.

Instead of replying to her, I turn to Chuck and say "anything interesting happen while I was out for a month?"

Chuck shakes his head. "No, not really."

I nod slightly.

"So how's it feel to be out and about again?" Newt asks me.

"It feels amazing. No pun intended."

Everyone laughs, except for Thomas. "What?"

"You'll find out later," Newt tells him.

He sighs and turns his attention to his food.

Minho walks over to the table and says "look at you up and running!"

"Not running anymore, remember?"

"You know what I mean."

I chuckle and say "yeah, I know what you mean."

"How you feeling?"

"Much better."

He nods. "Good. I'm glad to hear that. Didn't wanna have to toss you out to the Grievers."

"What's a Griever?" Thomas asks.

"Greenie alert." I say.

Minho laughs and says "you'll find out. For now just don't worry about it."

Chuck says "there a bonfire tonight?"

Newt nods. "Of course, new Greenie's here!"

Oh right, I forgot, that's a thing. I missed mine, and I didn't go to Chuck's.

I finish my giant plate of food and wipe my mouth with a napkin.

Thomas says "how did she eat that so fast? What is she, an animal or something?"

I freeze. Newt and Chuck thankfully say "no" in unison.

Minho looks at me and says "hey Co-Alyssa. Can I talk to you for a minute?"

I nod and stand up. We walk out of the Homestead. "What's up?"

"Just a little curious. When Greenie mentioned if you're an animal, you froze. The first thing you remembered was the word Coyote. You eat faster than anyone else in the Glade, and we're all guys. You're very fast, you don't get tired."

"Yeah, so? What do you want from me?"

"I want the truth. I'm your friend, I'm not gonna judge you. Are you actually part animal?"

"Why's it matter?"

"I wanna know."

"Well you don't need to."

"I think you just told me the answer."

"Fine! I'm a coyote! A werecoyote! Happy now?!" I turn away from him and run into the Deadheads. I climb up one of the trees and sit in the top, not bothering to come down for a few hours.

**A/N hey guys! Alright, so I've decided on a title for the second book. It's gonna be Chosen. So, the point of this note. I'm gonna do a mix of book and movie logic, because I like the way they did it in both.
