Abbie's first day of school arrived quickly, which wasn't exactly exciting for her because she was dreading having to go back, but we had everything ready and packed up the night before. She doesn't really seem nervous at all about starting at a new school, but I know she'd have nothing to worry about anyway. She has said that she'll miss her other friends, but I told her that we could probably have a few of them come over some time on the weekends and that seemed to make her pretty happy. I know that if Dustin comes under my roof, I'll be watching them both like a hawk, eight and a half or not.

Elise went down to the school the day she brought more of Abbie's stuff, and she got Abbie enrolled at Huntington Beach Elementary easily. Abbie's been put into the class list and they've already made room for her. If we'd done it any later than then, she would've had to start school later than everyone else by a few days.

I set my alarm for 5:45 so I can take a good fifteen minutes to get myself awake before I have to wake Abbie up. Let me tell you, that was not easy staying awake for fifteen minutes while I sat at the bar in the kitchen playing with my phone to keep myself busy. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, so that wasn't really an option for me and I wasn't very willing to change that. Eventually, I went into the bathroom and splashed myself with ice cold water and that seemed to work for me. By then, it was time for me to wake up Abbie, so I headed upstairs to do that.

I walked into her room, to see her all curled up in a ball, the blankets pretty much drowning her but she looked comfortable with her mouth hanging open slightly, breathing softly. I hated to wake her, as comfortable as she looked, but she has to get up on time or she'll miss the bus.

Shaking her gently, I said, "Abbie, time to get up."

"Mmph." She moved around a little, but soon settled back into the bed, her eyes never opening. "Just one more minute."

"Ok. One more minute." I said, and then started counting off the seconds. "One... two... three... four... five..."

"Dad, I can't get my extra minute of sleep with you counting out loud." She mumbled.

"That's the point. C'mon, get up." I shook her again, a little less gently this time.

"But Daaaaad!" She whined.

"But Abbieeeeeee!" I whined back at her, and I heard a small giggle.

"I don't wannaaaaa."

"Well we all have to do things in life we don't want to do. Get used to it, peanut, 'cause it's never going away." I flung the covers off of her, and she groaned. Smirking to myself, I grabbed the mini basketball and started bouncing it off her head like I had the day we went to the beach. Abbie started giggling and then rolled over, catching the ball and throwing it back at me. I wasn't able to catch it, and it ended up hitting me in the stomach.

"Hey! Not fair!" I protested, poking her gently in the stomach multiple times, and she just giggled more and tried to swat my hands away. Now she was wide awake, and she finally got up out of the bed when she tried to chase me around the room. I caught her and wrapped my arms around her, restraining her from going anywhere. Laughing evilly, I exclaimed, "I have caught the princess, and now I must send her away to the castle for the day where she has to stop being so lazy!"

"Noooooo!" Abbie cried out.

"Yeeees!" I moved us over to her dresser and made her open the drawers to get her clothes. "Get ready, and then when you come downstairs there'll be food awaiting you 'cause we can't have that stomach of yours empty."

Frowning slightly, she said, "Fine, I'll do it for the food." I laughed and left her to get ready for the day, going downstairs and getting her breakfast ready.
