Jimmy's POV
This morning I had a little better luck with keeping myself awake, though it was still rough. I went up to Abbie's room to get her up for school, and launched myself onto the bed beside her, causing her to bounce upward a little bit from the sudden weight on the bed. Her eyes opened slowly and looked at me.
"Hey, kiddo. Guess what?" I greeted her lightly, batting my eyelashes at her and smiling.
"It's time for school, isn't it?" She muttered, displeased.
I widened my smile a little. "You're so smart, y'know that?" I tapped the end of her nose, and she glared at me. "Don't be such a grouch, it's a beautiful day outside for you to be stuck inside a classroom all day." Abbie tried to keep glaring at me, but then burst into laughter.
"Wow, Dad, that's real... encouraging!" She exclaimed sarcastically, still laughing.
I chuckled. "Isn't it? Doesn't it just make you want to get up and... oh, I don't know, go to school?"
"Oh definitely." Abbie remarked, a fake smile covering her face.
"I knew it would! So that's just what you're going to do, isn't it?" I smirked.
"I guess." The words came out in a groan.
"I thought so." I said before getting up from the bed, and I heard her follow behind me. I glanced over my shoulder from the door and saw her making her way to the dresser, so I knew that she definitely was up and moving around in a way other than stretching out in the bed.
I went downstairs, and just after I got Abbie's breakfast started, Elise came downstairs. I knew that she'd been awake already, because she was getting ready for work. She wore black pants and a purple Aeropostle shirt, a black blazer over it. Black and purple, I should've expected this.
As she came into the kitchen where I leaned up against the counters with my arms crossed over my chest, I said, "I like your color scheme."
A small smirk surfaced on her face. "Thanks. I have a meeting today, hence the reason for the blazer. Thought it'd be nice to show up in my favorite colors."
"Well if I was the head of the meeting, I'd definitely give you a point for it." I joked, and she laughed a little. I noticed that she still looked like she had yesterday when I'd seen her at the record label after coming out of the studio, so without saying anything I just moved forward and hugged her because I knew she needed it. This was a little difficult for her because it'd been so long since she dated and felt heartbroken in this form, and I knew that she was having trouble getting around it, but it's only the second day. She'll be ok, though, I'll see to that.
We pulled away after a minute or two, and she gave me a small smile. "Thanks for doing this, I never really did properly thank you."
I smiled back at her. "No problem. Are you gonna eat breakfast with Abbie and I this morning? 'Cause if you are, you should know that you might only get one or two pieces of bacon before Abbie takes it all."
Elise laughed. "Probably I will, but don't worry about the issue of bacon. I'm used to that."
I chuckled. "I'm sure you are." While we waited for Abbie to come downstairs for breakfast, she and I sat up on the counters together, just talking about whatever we felt like. I stayed close to the stove so I could keep an eye on the food, but still kept a lot of my attention on her and the conversation.
"It's gonna be a long day, I know that for sure." Elise muttered.
"Why's that?" I asked curiously.
