In the morning, Abbie got ready for school and left on time as usual. Elise was in the kitchen, taking care of the dishes from breakfast. She'd applied make-up to Abbie's bruise so it was a lot less visible, she was afraid that if the kids saw it school, they'd make fun of her, especially if Danika saw it. This morning her cheek was a lot more sore than it was last night, and she accidentally hit it while she was brushing her hair, trying to get a big knot out of her hair, and it hurt so bad that it brought tears to her eyes. She was ok after a moment though, and she kept her cool until the pain subsided.
As I walked back into the kitchen, I remembered that Elise was going to ask Larry about getting permission to come into the studio yesterday afternoon, and I'd forgotten to ask her about it yesterday in all the commotion, so I decided to ask her now.
I came up behind her and wrapped my arms around her waist. "So what did Larry say?"
"Oh, I had to leave him a note because he'd left early and I didn't realize it. I should get an answer first thing this morning once he finds it." She said.
"Damn it. I was hoping he already gave you an answer." I muttered. I felt her hands cover mine at her waist.
"Be patient, Jimbo."
"Pssht! Yeah, right! That'll happen in like, a million years!" I exclaimed sarcastically, and she laughed. I grinned and kissed her cheek.
"Well you'll find out when you're at the studio if I walk through the door, then you'll know I got his ok." She told me.
"Mm, I'll be watchiiiing!" I sang out, and she laughed again. "You should come snuggle with me for a while before you have to go to work." I murmured into her ear.
"You would enjoy that wouldn't you?" She smirked.
"Very much so, yes."
"Well come on then." Elise unwrapped herself from me, taking one of my hands and leading me into the living room.
"I thought you were going to say no there for a minute." I told her.
"Me, say no to snuggling with you? Never!" Elise replied. I sat down on the couch first and she followed. I laid back and she laid in between my legs. My arms wrapped back around her and her hands came to rest on mine again. We watched the morning news, they were currently covering a story about a girl who get hit by a car last night and had fatal injuries. Suddenly, Elise said,
"Do you think she'll be ok?"
"Who? The girl who get hit by that car? Well, considering she died, I'd say no." I replied.
She laughed. "No, not the girl on the news! I meant Abbie."
"Why wouldn't she be?" I asked quietly.
"Well it's just this girl that's been picking on her. I don't know how far she'd go, and girls can be pretty mean sometimes." Elise said.
"Yeah, but this is Abbie we're talking about. She knows her boundaries, it was just that once she lost control and now she knows that she'll have to control herself better in similar situations. She's tough, she'll be fine." I assured her.
"Do you think she'd be able to tell us if she weren't, though?" Elise turned her head to look at me.
"I'd like to think she that she would, yes. But don't you think we'd just notice if there was something wrong? She's not great at keeping it hidden because of who she is, being enthusiastic and hyper all the time. If that suddenly stopped, unless she was sick, we'd have to know there was something wrong. But don't worry yourself, babe. She'll be perfectly fine." I kissed her lips softly, and after I pulled away I could feel her relax and the look of worry lessened from her face. She rested her head back on my shoulder and then we laid there in silence for the rest of the time until she had to leave for work.
