Jimmy's POV
By the end of that week, Abbie's back was fully healed. We took her back to the hospital to get it examined, and the doctor pressed on it in the same ways he had the first time, and she felt no pain at all. The x-rays taken this time showed that her back was completely healed, and she was now allowed to participate actively in basketball again, just in time for the last two games and the playoffs.
She'd been drumming non-stop this past week since she reached that milestone where she could start again, and to my amazement, she's successfully learned to play Almost Easy in that time. It had been what we were working on prior to her injury, because she wanted to start with a really big challenge. Well, she definitely did not back down from it after her injury either. She got straight to work, remembering what I'd already taught her and taking in what I recently taught her. Now, she could play the whole song through without any mistakes, and she continues to practice it to keep it in her mind on how to play it correctly.
Now, another week has come to an end and we've entered the month of February, and Abbie's played the last two games before playoffs already. She played the second game last night, and they won, which meant they were definitely going to be in the playoffs, which were Saturday, two days from now. Tonight she has practice, and then Friday night they get a break so they can be rested up for playoffs the next morning. She has to play two back-to-back games, as long as they win the first one. If they lose the first game, they don't play the second and they're done. Abbie is incredibly excited, and she's anxiously waiting for these next two days to pass because she just loves the playoffs. There are four games in total, so for two of those games she'll watch two different teams battle it out, probably eating food from the concession stands that'll be there.
After playoffs, I've gotta go out of town for a while because Avenged has a mini series of shows to play in different parts of California that's a few hours from Huntington Beach, so I'll be gone for about a week. I talked to Abbie about it and assured her that I wouldn't be missing any of her games, and she was pretty cool with it. She wanted to come with me, and if it were February vacation that week, I would've but that doesn't come until the week after I go away, so I told her she wouldn't be able to come this time, and that sort of bummed her out.
I picked Abbie up from practice, going into the gym as she was getting her basketball shoes off, her duffle bag beside her and her water bottle sitting beside her on the bleachers. I went up to where she was, and she looked up at me as I reached the top the of bleachers, standing beside her.
"Hey, kiddo. Did you have fun tonight?" I greeted her.
She grinned. "Yeah, we did a lot of fun drills. I just wish playoffs weren't so far away!" Abbie groaned.
I laughed a little. "Abbie, it's only two days from now, it's not that long."
"No, no, no, you don't understand! That's super long to me, because those are my favorite games to play in! If they suddenly were changed to having to be played right now, I'd do it even though I'm tired from practice." Abbie protested.
"I apologize, how could I be so insensitive." I remarked, and she giggled.
"Good. I don't accept your apology."
My jaw dropped. "What!!" Abbie laughed hysterically, and then bounced down the steps on the bleachers to the court, starting to walk away with her stuff. "Abigail Sullivan! How dare you!" I called teasingly after her, before running towards her. She laughed again and ran for the exit, and I went after her, following her all the way out to the car.
I caught her just before she had time to get in after she'd put her things in the car, scooping her up from behind and spinning her around. She giggled wildly, struggling against me but nothing loosened my grip on her.
