Abbie's POV
Wanting to get out of the house and forget about last night, that horrid nightmare sticking in my mind, I decided to spend the afternoon with Dustin. I didn't want him to be worrying about me, so I thought maybe if I hung out with him and showed him that I was fine, he wouldn't worry anymore. Plus, I didn't have anything else to do today. So, I called him and asked him if he was busy. He wasn't, which I was happy to hear, and pretty soon I was sitting out on his front lawn with him.
Dustin had brought out a blanket for us to sit on and his laptop. We both decided to listen to music, so he opened his Spotify and set his playlist on shuffle. We have similar music tastes, so I knew most of the songs that came on, but I like all music anyway so it didn't matter to me what we listened to. Besides, it was his playlist. While we listened, we talked, and it's never hard to find something to talk about with Dustin.
"Are you sure that you're ok? You know that you can tell me if you're upset, right? Because that's who we are, we always told each other everything. You don't have to tell me why if you don't want to, but you don't have to hide it from me." He said.
I smiled. "Dustin, I'm fine, I promise. There's just a couple things going on at home that have me thinking, but I'm perfectly fine."
"Well, ok, if that's all it is. I don't like to see you sad. You don't look right without a smile on your face."
I felt myself blush, and I felt really stupid for it. I bit my lip to hide a smile--ironically enough. I wouldn't let myself meet his eyes because I was suddenly unusually shy and I didn't understand it at all. So, to try and cover it up because I didn't want Dustin to notice this weirdness, I replied with a snarky but teasing comment.
"You don't look right no matter what."
Dustin's jaw dropped, trying to look offended but he soon burst into laughter and so did I. "I should've seen that coming."
"Yeah, you really should've." I grinned innocently, and he just shook his head.
Just then, a song came on Dustin's Spotify called 'Chocolate', by a band called The 1975. I'd never heard of either before, but the song was really catchy and different. The singer obviously had a British accent, and Dustin tried his best to sing along while sounding like him, which was making me laugh a lot.
"Are you laughing at me!?" Dustin asked teasingly.
"No! It's really cute when you try to sing with a British accent! Really, it is!" I said, giggling.
"It is not! I do not do 'cute'!" He protested.
"Yes you do, and you do it well."
"Nuh uh! I am a badass."
"No, I'm the badass, you're the cute one. Like a baby duck."
"No, no, no, I'm the badass, you're the baby duck."
"Ha! You wish!" I exclaimed. We kept arguing about who was cute and who was badass, and pretty soon Dustin ended up chasing me all around his yard. He was right behind me nearly the entire time, he's like the only one so far that's ever been able to keep up with me for this long. I was laughing the whole time though, and I could hear him laughing behind me.
Suddenly I was stopped when arms came around my waist and pulled me back, and I knew that Dustin had caught me. And then I found myself in his arms bridal-style, and he spun me around, both of us laughing but he was laughing more maniacally.
"I win! I am the badass, and you are the cute baby duck!" He declared, and I just laughed at him as he started to carry me back to where the blanket and his laptop were.
