Your POV:

Mephiles didn't give an immediate response, which made me nervous. The silence between us felt like it's been hours since I've asked, but it was really more like a few moments. The peculiar feeling returns, and I start to feel a bit unnerved. I look up at his face and find a smirk etched across his face. In a sly voice, he responds.

"It's becau—" He's suddenly cut off by the queen bee herself, who storms into the library with a few guys, who I like to call her bodyguards, following close behind her. The boys can easily be identified as members of the football team and are completely capable of tearing us limb by limb without a hint of mercy. Jess knows them well because she's part of the cheer squad. Head cheerleader, actually. I ignore the concerning look I previously saw on Mephiles' face and cling to his jacket tightly.

"You're dead, new kid, you hear me?!" Anger is written all over the blonde's face as she approaches our hiding spot. She didn't even receive a shush from the librarian. That's how much these people care about going against Jessica's wishes. That look on her face was all too familiar to me.

She's out for blood now. I gulp, my body shaking when I recall the last time I saw that look in her eyes, only I was the victim last time, not Mephiles. Though I suppose I can get caught in the crossfire now, I was more scared for my rescuer. Her "bodyguards" are clearly ready to beat up the boy who's still holding me tightly in his arms.

There's no way this will end well.

"We're so dead." I whimper and press my face against Mephiles' chest as tears blur my vision. The raven-haired boy reacts much differently than I have. He showed more annoyance than fear in his emerald gaze.

I shut my eyes tightly, silently praying I wouldn't be hurt this time. When she attacked me last time, I nearly died, and I highly doubt I'm going to survive another beating like that. Hell, I was hospitalized! Mephiles releases a dark, terrifying laugh, giving off an evil aura. The sudden shift shook me to the core.

My mind feels fuzzy, and the room begins to spin faster and faster by the second. My legs wobble and my grip weakens as I fall limp in his arms. He holds me up, though, my consciousness had all ready slipped past the point of no return. I could make out the sound of screams and shouts as I fall into darkness.

"OH MY GOD!"

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU?!?!"

"RUN AWAY!!!"

"FREAK!!!"

It was dark outside, for it was well past midnight. Still, flashes of light would sometimes enter the room due to the storm outside that's full of lightning and thunder. A hand stretches out from beneath the girl's bed, the body of a boy following soon after. The shadow-like figure rises to tower over her sleeping form, their glowing, green eyes pinned to her curled-up body.

Y/N would grip the sheets tightly every now and again before turning on her other side. In her head played a dreadful nightmare that kept her trapped in a world of unimaginable horrors. Soft whimpers escape her lips as she wrapped her body tighter in the covers for warmth and "protection". Tears streamed down the girl's cheeks as she rolled over again. The creature's gaze softened upon seeing her distressed form.

He kneels beside Y/N's bed and stretches out his hand to gently stroke the girl's H/C hair. An unfamiliar song rings out in hums meant to soothe her. She shivers, and her breath hitches before the crying and whimpers stop. Small sniffles would be heard as he took a seat on the girl's mattress. He lies down, facing her, and wraps his thin arms around her smaller body to pull her closer.

Her head now pressed against the creature's chest, and her hands clutched the tattered, thin coat he wore. The hood was decorated in white, faux fur around the rim, which added a touch of softness, making his thin body feel more like a pillow. Y/N stirs from her slumber, but held no desire to open her eyes to see who held her. It was likely her mother or father anyway, so why bother? Had she chose to open her eyes that night, she would've known the truth.

This creature was not either of her parents. It wasn't even human. A small smile touches her lips as the calming fragrance of lavender and blackberries radiated off the creature's body entered her nostrils. She held a strong liking to the clean scent and found herself nestling against him. Her body suddenly jolts upon hearing a loud boom of thunder, making her grip on the man's black coat grow stronger.

White, gloved fingers continue to brush through her H/C locks to settle her nerves and send her back to sleep. A twisted plot brews within the figure's hypnotic, emerald eyes. He's waited patiently for years. He would continue to wait until the perfect day to arrive in the young lady's life, to make a real impression on the girl in his arms. That'd be a day he'd look forward to because he knows.

He knows that he's the darkness, and the girl is destined to be his light.
