Violet's POV
She was beautiful, but also terrifying. Her body was flawless, and her paraffin skin glowed softly, like the moonlight. She sat casually and seemingly comfortably in perfect posture, legs crossed, back straight, chin up.
There was only one thing wrong with this perfect woman.
Her right eye.
Or lack there of.
Instead, a dark black opening was present, lit dimly by a soft pink light in the far back of the socket.
Slow moving crimson liquid oozed out of the socket like tree sap from a maple.
I should have ran.
I should have screamed.
But I didn't.
This woman... She had saved me.
I opened my mouth to speak, but she raised a hand, signaling for me to stop, and I obeyed, silent and in utter awe as she began to speak.
Her voice seemed to come and and go, back and forth, much like the wind when it blows through the trees.
"Love is a strange thing." The woman stated softly.
I nodded, although I didn't really understand what she meant.
"I realize that, in bringing you back to life, I have also taken away all the memories you had of your life." She stood and approached me, her arm outstretched. She gently rested her hand against my forehead. "It's about time that I returned them to you."
I tried to cry out as a strong, aching pain sent waves of agony through my body. I couldn't make a sound.
Then it stopped.
Instantly, I remembered everything.
I gasped, thankful my voice worked again, I cried out his name.
"Vio!!" His face was the first to flash through my mind, followed by Lyra, Ben and my father.
I felt tears well up in my eyes and fought the urge to sob as the memory of the bounty hunter washed over me. The look on his face when I... Died... it was beyond human comprehension.
"You may return to them, but unfortunately, at a price. I am not evil, and I did not choose this, but I fear that you will blame me."
Anger rose in my chest.
"How could I blame you? You SAVED me!!" I cried. "What is it you want? I'll do anything to go back to them!" I blinked tears back as I felt my face get warm.
She tapped her right temple with the pad of her forefinger.
"You must give up the one thing that I do not have." She said, sounding heavy-hearted, as though she'd been through this too many times.
Suddenly, I knew what I had to give up.
The one thing she didn't have.
A right eye.
