BEN’s POV
After I’d blow-torched the guy, then shish-kebabed him, I looked at Vio.
“Sup?” I said casually, as if I hadn’t just saved his life, or that I hadn’t just made a bad-guy into backyard barbecue.
“Hey, BEN.”, Vio replied, his tone just as light and carefree as mine was.
Then, again, the only semi-awkward chat was broken by a girl running full speed at Vio, screaming his name.
“Are you okay?!” She asked, her words rushed and scared.
“I-I’m fine, Vi.”
She hugged him, and well… yeah… as I said… THAT broke the semi-awkward atmosphere into something much more like a school dance. Like, the ones where the teachers don’t let the guys just play basketball in the corner, but the ones where you ACTUALLY HAVE TO DANCE… LIKE SLOW DANCE!!!
“You… You’re…” The girl had finally released Vio from her strong grip, and turned to face me.
Flames still flickered at my fingertips, so she could see my grotesque appearance.
But, once again, I prejudged, and instead of running away in terror, like most people, she flung herself around, me, wrapping me in a rib-cracking hug.
“That’s TWICE you’ve saved him!! Thank you!!!”
And she began to cry.
‘Vio… What… ?’ I mouthed, but he was standing next to Vi, comforting her.
Oh… I realized as I awkwardly patted her on the back, for she had not yet stopped hugging me… so when that man said he had wanted Vio’s girlfriend dead…
The only problem was, I recognized the man.
He was one of the men who murdered me all those years ago, and had managed to escape my wrath.
And there were more of them out there.
Ones I could not beat.
