Adeline's POV

I ran. I ran from the room, denying what I just discovered, hoping that if I run fast enough, I may be able to escape it all.

My feet carried me through the castle. I could hear Gabriel chasing after me. I can't breathe in here. It was as if the walls were closing in on me and suffocating me. I just needed to get outside and breathe.

My chest rose and fell as I ran faster and faster. I ran past the guards into the front of the castle before I was tackled by Gabriel.

The wind was knocked out of me as we were both knocked onto the cold, frosty ground. Gabriel's body was on top of me as he held me down.

Everything was overwhelming me. My parents are dead, My mate is the Vampire King, there is a prophecy about me, and I'm an angel.

"No! I don't want to go back! You're lying! Don't make me go back. I-I wanna go home. I wanna go home. I don't want to stay here! Ple-ase." I broke into a sob.

"Addie."

"No! No!" I sobbed.

I wanted to escape everything, and running away from my problems was the best I could do. My mind refused to believe anything, and I was overwhelmed with everything that happened in the past few days.

"Addie! Calm down!" Gabriel yelled.

I continued to struggle frantically under Gabriel's strong grip on my arms.

"No!" I sobbed.

Suddenly, Gabriel's lips collided with mine, silencing me immediately and snapping me out of my trance at the same time. The kiss was soft, and he held on to my lips until he felt me relax under him. He slowly pulled away, his lips swollen, and his eyes dark with something I couldn't identify. Lust. I gazed up at him, our hot breaths mixing in the tight space in between us. I felt calm now. I stared at his lips for a moment, until his lips collided with mine again, this time a little more roughly.

His lips trailed towards my neck, leaving soft kisses, which felt like butterflies. A soft moan escaped out of my raspy voice. His lips stopped at the base of my neck, and I could feel sharp fangs graze along my skin. He licked the tender spot, and his fangs brushed against it with his every move. His teeth sank into my skin, and I gasped from the pain and pleasure. His teeth sunk deeper, and I could feel him sucking my blood, but all I felt was pleasure. I felt Gabriel's hand creep up the milky white skin of my thigh, under the night gown I was wearing. He just bonded us. The first step in a mate bond.

No no no. Crap.

Immediately, I snapped out of whatever we were doing. I placed my hands against his chest and added a slight bit of pressure. Instantaneously understanding the memo Gabriel stopped.

"You cheated. O-On your mate." My raspy voice croaked out, remembering what happened. He bonded me to him.

Gabriel's eyes turned red as he slowly got off of my body. I stood up along with him, facing his tall structure.

"I didn't cheat. It's not what it looked like." He said, his voice growing deep and feral. You can sense the agitation in his speech. He was angry that I accused him.

I almost rolled my eyes at his stupid remark.

"Then what the hell was that?What did I see in the room?"

I pushed his chest, sending him farther away from me.

Mates don't cheat.

"Adeline, I didn't cheat on you. Vern snuck into my ro-"

I cut him off. "I can't help but think about you day and night, wondering if you're safe because you are hardly around, yet you treat me like shit!" I shoved him again, and he took a small step back, unaffected by the push I gave him.

"You've treated me like hell multiple times and I forgave you each time!"

I shoved him again.

"You keep locked up inside your castle, alone, and not once have you ever checked to see how I felt! You just have me around because you need me in order to get your crown! You don't even care the slightest bit about me, do you?"

This time Gabriel shoved me in the other direction.

"You know what! You're right." His sinister voice sent chills down my spine. He looked cold and frightening.

"I don't give a damn." He said clearly annunciating every syllable.

"You're just an annoying little burden who I have to carry around thanks to the fates who paired us together. You mean nothing to me." He said stressing on the word, nothing.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I've wasted enough time." Gabriel said brushing past me, coldly.

I'm not sure how long I stood there in shock for. I was snapped out of my trance a while later when Gabriel sent someone to take me back to my room.

The guard shoved me into my room before locking the door, under Gabriel's orders. He was imprisoning me again.

I made my way to the soft bed and sat on it, still trying to process what just happened.

A loud piercing shrill ricocheted through the air. The screaming grew louder and louder, until I realized it was mine. I was screaming at the top of my lungs.

My body felt like it was on fire. The pain is indescribable and unbearable. It originated in the pits of my abdomen and pulsed through my body. I screamed louder and louder, clawing onto my body in hope of any relief from the pain.

Once again, tears streamed down my face begging for relief.

My screaming died down. I began to panic, and that made it worse, I couldn't breathe. Instead short labored gasps for air escaped my body.

It was like someone was ripping out my insides, putting them back together, and ripping them again.

I realized the source of my pain five minutes into the constant terror.

I was bonded to him now, after what happened outside, triggering the mate bond. I could feel everything he felt, and right now, he was doing it with someone else. He was angry with me.

The searing hot pain died down 10 minutes later, leaving me with bruises all over my body, and unable to move a limb without whimpering in pain.

How could he do this to me?
