Adeline's POV
The babies were with Vern. It hurt me to say goodbye to them, but with the condition the kingdom was in right now, it was best for them to be as far away from the situation as they couldn't be, which includes me.
I'd only be a threat to them. Danger clings to me like a skin, and I can't get rid of it.
I had only spent a day with the tiny, sleeping babies, and I knew in my heart that I would only hurt them.
It hasn't even been two days since they were born, but there were already people wanting them dead.
I made up my mind.
Before dawn, Vern had left the cottage with Jasper and Emberlee to go as far away from the mess as they could: the cottage.
The same cottage I had been trapped in for the first eighteen years of my life. The same cottage where I grew up in.
The cottage is far from the castle and the heart of this mess. It's on the outskirts of town, cloaked by a spell.
Mary still lives there. She promised to watch over the babies. Vern had just left to deliver the babies to their location where they would be safe from the terrors of the world. No one can step in the cottage unless Mary personally invites them in.
The cool, summer breeze fanned against my cheek, bringing me back to my senses. I was standing outside, staring down the hill in the direction Vern had took my children.
"Adeline? Did you hear what I said?" Gabriel asked.
Taking a deep breath, I turned towards him. The babies would be safe with Mary.
"I'm sorry," I released my breath, which I had been unconsciously holding in.
"Hey," Gabriel said, putting his arms on my shoulders. He unmistakably saw my gaze on the direction the twins disappeared in.
"They will be okay." Gabriel said, hugging me.
"I know that," I whispered, brushing a traitorous tear that escaped from my cheek.
Gabriel released his hold on me.
Turining around, I grabbed my bag off the ground.
"I'm ready let's go," I said, getting into the car.

We had driven out to a house. Supposedly, as Gabriel said, there was someone there who could help me discover my powers. I have to learn as much as I can by nightfall, which is when we attack the castle.
Gabriel doesn't want me to come without being able to defend myself. At this moment, I have no idea how to use any of my powers so if I go along, I will be more of a burden than useful.
Which is why I have to make myself useful by nightfall.
It was still early in the morning. I could feel the cool, morning air as I walked on a path to the large, towering house in front of me. It had a white exterior and a beautiful, white porch extending from it. The house was surrounded by tall, large trees, their age visible from the size of their trunks. It was situated on top of a hill, and behind the house, you could see a breathtaking view that led down to a lake.
Gabriel and I walked up the steps and onto the porch. I pulled my bag close to my body and reached up to knock on the door. I took a step back as the door opened, revealing a petite, young woman.
