I made the new cover and I really like it.
Adeline's POV
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
The steady dripping noises were driving me insane. I couldn't see anything because there were no light sources in the dank, musty room. It was just me and a dark room.
The obscurity of the darkness which engulfed me left me to my imagination. The slightest breeze startled me, making me shake in fear of the horrors of the dark room.
I'm currently huddled in a corner, trying to make sense of my surroundings. I was slowly rocking back and forth, trying to comfort myself.
As much as I hated it, fear coursed through my veins, spreading faster as I worried about what they would do to me. There was no one left to save me. I'm on my own now.
Gabriel, please come back.
I knew he was gone, but I still couldn't register it. It hadn't hit me yet. A part of me wished that he was alive and would show up at any moment to save me, but this time I knew I had to fight this on my own.
Glancing around the room uselessly, yet relentlessly for an escape, I stood up from the position I had been huddled in for a while.
As I stumbled around the room, the door opened. I stepped back in horror. He's going to hurt me like he did last time.
He switched on the lights and I turned to run into the far corner of the room, which was as far away from him that I could get.
Before I could make it even halfway to my desired destination, Damien entangled his fingers in my hair, gripping it harshly, and pulling my back.
I bit my lip and winced at the sting of pain that followed.
"Let me go you motherfucker!" I cursed at Damien. I wasn't going to let him hurt me. I was going to fight.
I grabbed onto his fingers, which were still wound in my hair, tugging, harshly.
Eli walked into the room, standing at the doorway.
I glared at him. After all the time I spent with him, he wouldn't even help me.
I dug my nails into Damien's hand until I could feel his warm blood touching my fingers.
He didn't even flinch. In fact, he pulled my hair harder.
"Let go!" I screamed, kicking to get out of his hold.
He slammed my head against the wall, trying to shut me up. I could feel the blood trickle down the side of my forehead.
Damien chuckled as he wiped my blood off with his finger. He took the finger and licked it.
I closed my eyes, anger building up within me. Opening my rage-filled eyes, I spat on him.
Damien closed his eyes as my saliva came in contact with his face.
A sinister chuckle escaped his lips. He slid a hand across his face to wipe the spit off. He opened his eyes staring me dead on. His eyes were glowing red as a deadly malicious look danced across his face.
Something tells me I shouldn't have done that. But, I don't regret it.
I don't know what happened next, but the next thing I know, I was lying on the ground, my sides aching. He just hurled me onto the ground.
"You know what? Since your filthy mate is dead, I might as well take over and be king." He said twirling a knife around in his fingers.
"And guess what, you can be my bitch."
He threw the knife at me.
I flinched, but I never felt the pain. Instead the dagger was embedded in the wall, inches from my head.
Damien slammed the door shut, leaving in a rage.
*~~*~~*
My eyes began to droop, as I grew exhausted. I haven't slept or eaten properly. There was the painful hoarseness in the back of my throat begging me to quench my thirst. I needed blood. Everything was numb, I couldn't feel anything below my neck, but I could still move. My body was trying to keep its energy.
As my eyes fluttered shut, I felt a presence. Opening my eyes I scanned the room warily, determined to figure out who was there.
In front of me there was a soft glow of light. Vern.
"Hush." She whispered.
She wasn't here physically, but I could see a glowing spirit in front of me. She was using her magic.
"Don't sleep now, the battle is not over. The queen and I may have found the cure to your curse."
Taking her hand she moved it towards my body. She was the only light source in the room.
Trailing it over me, she gasped.
Tilting my head to see what shocked her, I looked down to see blood trailing down from my thighs and pooling on the ground. I gasped and began breathing frantically.
"Oh dear. No. Please no." I shook my head in frustration.
"What's happening? Vern, please tell me this isn't what I think! Talk to me!"
Peeling the dress of my legs, Vern muttered under her breath, "Shit, it's happening."
Reaching into her pocket, she mumbled incoherent words.
Pulling out a vial she put it on the ground in front of me.
"Please drink this. It's the cure I was talking about. It's bound to work. The power of a life for a life. It's my last hope. I can't hold on much longer." She whispered as she began to disappear.
"Look, I don't have much time. Adeline, you will be fine. Don't stress yourself out! Everything will be fine! Drink the vial!" She said before vanishing completely.
Tears streaming down my cheeks, I stared at the mess in front of me. Blood trickled down my thighs. Please, I don't want to lose everything, I begged to whatever lord was out there. I couldn't let this happen.
Taking the vial into my hands, I stared at the dark, red liquid debating what to do.
Deciding to trust her, I screwed the cap of the vial. The liquid, which was clearly blood smelled sweet and appealing because of my lack of blood for the past few days.
The choice was simple. Without hesitation I lifted the vial up to my lips.
•I'm surprised I even finished this chapter. Guys I'm so sorry, and I truly do feel terrible for updating like once in a blue moon, but honestly that's the best I can do. I have so much work, and it's really hard for me to write at the same time. So please forgive me, updates will still be quite slow. I'm sorta liking writing this right now, so I may update sooner this time. Thank you so much, and I hope you understand!
Many of you are a bit depressed with the direction the story is going, but trust me, now is not the time to give up. Keep reading! Poor Addie, she may be losing one of her babies. We can only hope for the best. The book is nearing and end, probably just a couple more chapters! Everything seems to be going downhill for our dear Adeline.
