Adeline's POV
I stilled, heavily breathing in the air around me. My hair swirled around me from the harsh winter wind.
The sound of the gunshot was still echoing through my ears.
Ray's body had finally gave in, and he collapsed from the wound I caused him.
My savior had his arms spread out as he stood protectively in front of me.
The bullet he took caused him to falter in his step. He tripped and ended up falling to the ground as well.
I choked out a sob, falling to ground next to him. I quickly scanned his body for the source of his bleeding, and I identified the clear hole the bullet caused when it passed through him.
He smiled up at me as tears fell from my eyes. He brought one of his hands up to my cheek, "Adeline, I'm sorry."
**~~**~~**
We couldn't save him.
William Ambrose passed away that day.
But not before telling me the truth.
He never had a choice.
I was born to Queen Serafina and King Alexander. William confirmed my suspicions, naming me as Queen Serafina's child from my visions. After I was born amidst the chaos, the King, my father rushed towards the village with hopes of saving at least me. My true father never made it to the village. He handed me off to one of his trusted acquaintances, Lord Ambrose before he went to face his fate. The country was left without a royal in the throne. The council had gathered, electing a new noble family to take over the throne. Lord Ulric, Gabriel's father, became the new king.
My existence was not truly unknown. Rumors spread that the child of Queen Serafina was still alive.
The thirst of those who desired power was never quenched by my mother's death. My mother's murderers caught a whiff of the rumor spreading around, and once again, they reached out in greed.
Lord Ambrose, the man who raised me as my father, had decided that it was best if people never found out I existed. It would only serve as a threat to my life, luring out danger and darkness from all corners of the world.
That is how I ended up in the cottage with my caretaker, Mary.
I was raised in the cottage, earning visits from my father and Willie, my only family.
No one knew where I was because my father had done a great job at hiding me. But some knew of my existence, and with the rise of a prophecy, they became more eager to find me.
Then came my eighteenth birthday. The day I came out. The night of my birthday ball they found me and killed my father. That was also the night William was captured by Damien and tossed into a cell to rot.
I've left out one thing about William's life: he has a mate and two children.
Damien had captured them as well on the night of the ball. William had no choice. Either work with Damien or find his family dead.
William chose to work with him. But, Damien never kept his word.
The day Gabriel rescued me from Damien's hold, William saw his family again.
But, they weren't alive. Instead, he saw their dismembered limbs and dead bodies from Damien's wrath.
William had to see his family die.
It was my fault. It was my fault that I dragged him and his family into this mess. It was my fault that he was put in the position where he had to worry about his family's well-being everyday. It was my fault that he had to betray his own sister. It was my fault that he never got the happy ending he deserved. It was my fault he had to see their blood splattered across walls, scarring his memory.
In front of me, in all his glory was the repulsive demon, Damien.
He had bloodied lips, a broken nose, a bruised cheek, and a black eye. He looked as if he had been beaten to a pulp. Gabriel continued to slowly and agonizingly torture him as I approached the cell.
"Stop, Gabriel."
He didn't listen.
"Stop!"
Gabriel froze. He craned his neck over to me.
Damien looked up under his hooded eyes to see me. He was shackled to the walls of the musty dungeon by celestial silver chains. The burn marks from the chains digging into his skin were evident. A wicked grin spread across his face.
"I want to be the one who kills him." I said to Gabriel.
Gabriel backed up, giving me a knife.
Taking the knife I brought it to Damien's chin, using into to tilt his head up towards me.
The knife sizzled on Damien's chin, the celestial silver on it leaving burn marks in its trail.
"The pain and the suffering you caused for everyone, I hope it comes back to you, agonizing you while you burn in hell."
I trailed the knife down his throat, slowly circling his heart, leaving a fiery burn in its path. I continued to circle around his heart, before I suddenly stopped.
"Goodbye Damien."
The knife sunk in, piercing through his heart.
Damien gasped. I watched as the life drained from the black pits of his eyes. His body slumped over in defeat, giving into the darkness. His skin turned pale, the blood draining from his face.
He was gone.
It's over.
• I'm sorry for the long wait for this, but that's it. The end of the book. Of course it isn't done just yet! There will still be an epilogue. After the epilogue, I'm going to begin revising the book because trust me, its pretty shitty. I want to thank you all for sticking with me through this wonderful journey. This book has come a long way and I have no clue how I made it this far. Something I started for fun went as far as to reaching #1 on vampire and getting over 1 million reads. Even though my book is shitty it really means something that a lot of people liked it enough to get it to where it is now. Thank you all so much.
I will be working on a brand new werewolf book and I actually have a good plot planned out this time. I'm way older now, way more mature, and my writing skills have really grown.
I will be previewing my new story on here sooner or later, but don't archive this book yet! Stick around for the epilogue to see Gabriel and Adeline's happy ending.
