Adeline's POV

His rough skin touched my palm, fire igniting where his fingers grazed my skin. His fingers wove through my own fingers, reaching to a firm grasp.

I gasped. The pain momentarily disappeared. His touch was enough to calm my nerves.

Jolting my hand out of his grasp, I reached to his broad chest from my position on the bed. Placing my hand on the fabric of his shirt, I received enough information to know he was real.

"You're dead." I said looking at him.

"I don't break promises." He said.

My hand trailed from his chest to his neck. I pulled his head down, crashing my lips onto his.

"Was that real enough for you?" He whispered into my ear before pulling away from my body.

I smiled, still breathing heavily.

The moment he stepped away, the pain returned.

Grimacing in pain, I turned to look at him, "Don't let go."

He intertwined his fingers with mine again, placing a hand on my forehead.

Vern began to guide me.

I held onto Gabriel's hand tightly throughout the whole thing, scared to lose him again. I was afraid that he was just a hallucination and after all this was over he would just disappear.

After an hour of screaming and gripping onto Gabriel, I could hear tiny wails.

"Oh," I gasped, tears coming to my eyes at the sound of the wails.

Gabriel picked up the beautiful baby boy. Reaching out to touch the baby's hand, my eyes widened in admiration.

Another sharp jolt of pain reminded me of the second twin. Gripping onto the blankets, I screamed in pain. My screams were interrupted by the tiny wails of another baby.

Breathing heavily, I sighed. It was over.

Vern wrapped the baby before walking to my side.

"It's a girl." Vern said.

I laughed, wiping my tears. In her hands was the small baby thrashing around violently as it wailed. It's skin was tinged pink, and it had clear, blue eyes. She had a tiny tuft of brown hair on her head.

Vern handed me the baby gently.

Carefully, with shaky hands, I brought the baby close to me.

Gabriel leaned in, handing me the boy as well.

"They're beautiful-like you," he said, kissing me on the forehead.

Jasper and Emberlee.

They were snuggled together in a giant, circular crib, that was brought to our room in the cottage, which was illuminated only by moonlight.

Apparently it was unsafe to go back to the castle now.

I couldn't take my eyes off the two sleeping children. They both made it. I was so scared I would lose them, and now all I can think about was protecting them.
