Adeline's POV
Gabriel took me into the middle of town, to their annual harvest festival. It was a crowded and busy place with lots of people, and many vendors along the street. There were a few food stands and many sources of entertainment around the town square.
I made sure earlier to show no hint of amy emotional blows from the Queen to Gabriel when I came out of the castle. I didn't want to create a dispute between a mother and her son.
We were both disguised to keep attention away from us. If people saw the King out on the street, they were sure to form crowds.
I was wearing a huge scarf and a pair of black shades to hide my face. Gabriel wore the same things as well.
My smile brightened when I took in my surroundings once again. This would be my first time being at something like a fair, and I was enjoying every moment of it. Everything was still slowly sinking in. When you have been imprisoned in a cottage for the first eighteen years of your life, you get disconnected from the world.
We were walking side by side, when I pointed to a bean bag toss competition. There were many moving objects in the background, but in order to win the grand prize, which was the giant ass of teddy bear (Hell yeah motherfuckers), you had to hit the tiny little red circle moving around rapidly.
"Let's do this." I said, tugging his arm in the direction the game.
For one round, each person gets three bean bags, so I picked up a few bean bags and threw them at him. He caught them all the with his reflexes, and the objects started moving.
"Go." Gabriel whispered.
We both launched a bean bag at the same time, and they collided into each other, knocking each other out.
I threw my remaining beanbags, completely missing the target.
"I'm out of bean bags."
Gabriel threw one of his two bean bags at me.
I caught it and began to aim for the target.
"There's now way you'll make it." He snickered at my seriousness.
I rotated my body 90 degrees to be face to face with him. I threw the bean bag, without thinking, directly at his face. It went hurling towards his pretty features, hit him on the side of his head and bounced onto the red target.
I broke out into a fit of laughter.
"I won!" I shouted out in glee.
"No, I won, it bounced off my head. Plus it's my bean bag." Gabriel argued.
"Stop whining and grab the teddy bear."
"I'll get someone to pick it up, love."
My eyes turned to the pink fluffy clouds of cotton candy being sold.
"I'm hungry." I blurted out walking to the cotton candy.
Gabriel got me one, and I began to put chunks of the fair food into my mouth. This would be my second time eating cotton candy. My father got it for me once.
My eyes saddened when I thought about him. He died trying to save me from the attack, and I miss him.
Suddenly, I felt nauseous and my surroundings grew unclear. I stumbled on my step, and Gabriel reached out to catch me.
"Are you okay?" He had a firm grip around my waist sending tingles up my spine. His touch made me feel alert again as the dizziness faded.
"Y-Yeah. I don't know what happened, but I'm okay. Don't worry."
Gabriel raised an eyebrow at me, concerned.
"I'm just going on go to bathroom, okay?" I said, pushing myself out of his arms.
I turned around and headed to the bathroom stalls deep in thought. Every single second, the Queen's words reverberated in my head.
The light blue tile of the bathroom stall appeared in front of me, but before I could enter, a hand clasped around my mouth. I clutched onto the hand, struggling to get out of its tight grip. A cloth was pressed to my nose, and I was forced to breathe.
The world around me faded to a dull black.
