He hasn't come home.

I know it's stupid, I know I shouldn't care- especially not after all the shit he said to me- but I do care and I'm worried.

His phone, which he has inconveniently left behind, rings from time to time in his room but I don't bother looking to see who is calling him. Because I don't care about his personal life. I don't.

Who am I kidding?

Its taking every string of self restraint in me to keep myself from running into his room and investigating. He can't have come back at all today after he left in the morning because surely something from the fridge would be missing. He's probably staying with his friends like he said he would before the whole frat party fiasco.

My whole life is a fiasco.

Staring at the TV I flip through the sociology course book I bought- which cost more than half the clothes in my closet combined. I let my mind wander to the nameless girl at the Starbucks, not knowing her name was slowly starting to kill me.

As if it matters, I'm probably never seeing her again but then how did she know my name? At first I was convinced she must've seen it written on the front side of my copy of The Great Gatsby but upon inspection, I found that I had surprisingly not written my name on the front of it.

I'm still lost in thought when I hear the front door close with a bang, jumping up I remember I forgot to lock and chain it. Again.

Thinking it's probably Seid, I cautiously step towards the entrance lobby and halt when I whiff the strong smell of melted chocolate.

"Surprise?" A weak voice says from behind me and I swirl around, colliding with Natalie.

"What the heck?"

"What what the heck?"

"What are you doing here?"

"We haven't heard from you since the party and you obviously got pretty trashed so we thought we owed you an apology for dragging you with us," Scarlet says, appearing in the doorway.

"And then not even checking up on me," I add, crossing my arms.

"Hey, we knew that tall hunky brother in law of yours had you," Natalie says defensively.

"Future brother in law," I bite out, "Don't even mention him around me,"

"Ooh," Scarlet squeals, "I smell drama."

I lead them to the living room, beyond grateful for the relief from loneliness and time for quiet mind boggling contemplation.

Nat sets down the packets of m&ms and kit kats as Scarlet opens the box of the molten lava cakes which has spread their aroma throughout the entire house.
