Two Months Later
Amira's POV (For clarification it's been two months since she left South Carolina)
How do I tell my boss about the press meeting with my other boss? She'll either understand and let me off early or she could get mad and make me work over time. There was no knowing with Diana, she was unpredictable in the weirdest of ways.
I take my apron off and paced the storage room. If I don't go to this press meet my other boss might just fire me. And then I might be stuck here for a long time, sampling and serving meats and cheeses all day, I can't let that happen can I? I mean the pay is good but it's nothing compared to the pay of an assistant.
"Goodness Amira what on earth are you doing in the storage room?" I nearly jump out of my skin as Emma walks in and closes the door behind her.
"I need to ask Diana to let me go early today,"
"So?"
"So, she's gonna get mad!" I frantically take my gloves off.
"No she won't," Emma replies.
"She's not in a good mood today, the shipments are late," I whine.
"Let me tell her,"
"Thanks Emma you're a life saver," Emma is Diana's daughter, she helps out with her mom's catering business every now and then and me and her have actually grown quite close. She's got a genuine person and is always so positive you can't help but be drawn to her. It was actually thanks to Emma that I got this job.
When I randomly landed in Seattle, I had completely panicked. It all seemed nice and dandy when I got the ticket to a place I'd never been to and it all seemed perfect and something out of a chick flick when I slept overlooking the clouds on the plane but as soon as we landed and I walked out of the airport with no idea where I was going to go, I panicked.
And in my panic, I got a cab and asked to be dropped off somewhere "where there is food" I believe my words were and the nice cab driver dropped me off here; Diana's Catering Services. Here I met Emma and over a cup of coffee found out that they were hiring. I got the job, spent a large chunk of my savings on renting an apartment in a building nearby and just started living.
It all seemed directionless in the beginning but I told no one where I was, what I was doing. I had told them I was safe and that I just needed time away. Natalie and Khadija were understanding but Scarlet didn't understand, she called everyday for the first ten days, begging me to come back, reading me statistics of how many women living alone get abducted and trafficked. But I didn't budge and it felt good to be the stubborn one for a change.
