Chapter 13 - Nicer than Usual
[Recap: Wendy stays in bed after being injured on her right side, a large hole embedded into her skin by something or someone she does not remember. The day after, a new greenie by the name of Chuck comes up the box.]

The hole in my side no longer burned with pain; instead, it felt like an annoying bruise that hurt when ever I bent down or walked. In other words, it was a hassle keeping up with it.
Alby and Minho told me to stay at least another day in bed, but I felt completely useless and unimportant doing nothing. It was as if I needed to be doing something every second or else it felt like everyone despised me for not working.
"Minho, I swear I'm okay." I tell the Asian once again as he helps me out of bed.
He bites his lip in worry and anxiety. His arm was strongly, yet gently at the same time, wrapped around my waist, keeping me from falling to the floor. His help was also making the pain subside a bit and I was thoroughly grateful for it, but I didn't need that much help.
"Wendy, are you sure? The hole could reopen and you could start bleeding or pass out again-" he rambles on as he holds me to his side.
"I'm fine, Minho." I chuckle, looking up at him as he stares back worryingly. "Trust me. If I need anything, I'll ask Alby or Newt. You need to run, remember? Gotta get us out." I mention, smiling up at him, "Gotta find an exit and save us all."
Minho beams at this and nods, "Okay, but I swear, nothing better happen to you. I already talked to Newt so he'll be watching over you." he says before fixing my massive curls so they were less bushy. "I'll be back."
I nod and hesitate for a second before throwing myself into his arms.
I wrap my hands around the back of him and I feel his hands tangle themselves into my brown locks.
"Thank you." I whisper before pulling away quickly, "Better be back again so I can see that ugly face of yours."
Minho's eyes light up and he lets out a laugh, "I will just so I can see that ugly face of yours too."
"Newt." Minho announces and Newt, who was watching everything happen from the corner of the room, comes to my side. "Watch out for her."
"Of course, shank." Newt says, rolling his eyes before slipping an arm around my waist to steady me. "She'll be fine. Now go, the gates are already open."
Minho flashes me a smile and a nod at Newt before walking out the door, already in his gear before jogging to the east door.
"Let's go." I tell Newt and he helps me walk out of Homestead and down the stairs. It takes awhile, but when we finished climbing down, we saunter over to the Gardens.
"Are you sure you're okay, Wendy?" Newt asks me as he hands me a rubber band to tie my hair back.
My eyes widen at his kindness but I shake off the expression and smile at him, "Yes, of course. Thank you." I smile before tying my hair into a ponytail, trying not to lift my arms up a lot.
Newt hands me a basket and I grab it steadily, "Just pick the vegetables and fruits from the vines, if they're too high, just leave them there and I'll get them. If you're tired just tell me, alright? I'll be over here; I'll come check on you every few minutes." he explains before nodding at me and walking over to another set of vines.
I look at the vines in front of me and reach out to pick a green vegetable. My side burns a bit more than before, but I ignore it and throw it in the basket.
