Chapter 32 - Dawn Rose and Hell Greeted Me
[Recap: The entire glade worried about Minho and Alby because the doors were close to closing and they had still not arrived back home. Soon, they do though, but they don't make it because Alby was unconscious and Minho didn't want to leave him. They all notice this, trying to encourage them, but Thomas runs in right before the doors shut, leaving all three of them trapped in the maze and leaving the rest to worry for the night.]

Wendy was pacing back and forth in front of the Maze walls ever since the doors closed. Her brown eyes were flickering between the ground and the closed doors, a sick feeling settling in her stomach when the sound of the maze walls changing sounded through the air.
Newt was pacing as well, his strides longer and more angry while Wendy's were short and jittery. Everyone was panicking because no one survived a night out in the maze. Not even a runner, the best one, especially if he has to deal with someone unconscious and someone who has no idea what they're doing half the time.
She made eye contact with Newt and she saw pain flash in his gaze, making the brunette's heart break even more. She felt like shit and she barely knew them for a couple of months, imagine how Newt felt? And everyone else? The loss of one, now four, Gladers was unbearable.
"Bloody hell." she seethed, her teeth clenched as cold air left her chapped lips. "There has to be a damn way to get in there—"
"It's useless." Newt interrupted, finally settling down and leaning against the wall as his eyes followed the still pacing girl. "There's no way into the maze without going through the doors. The tops are covered in spikes and anyway, you're hurt and I can barley run because of my limp. We just need to accept it."
Wendy shook her head no, stopping to send the blonde a disapproving stare. "They could be alive, Newt. There's a chance."
He sucked a deep breath, opening his mouth to disagree, but Wendy spoke again. "You need have a hope, Newt. For once in your life, believe that something good will happen."
His gaze snapped at her and she saw a hint of rage flow through his eyes, frustration too. He stepped forward, moving dangerously close to her until his body was centimeters from meeting hers before he dipped his head and spoke. It came out like a harsh and rough whisper, his voice laced with venom with every word.
"Hope? Hope, Wendy, you want me to have hope? Last time I checked, nothing good has ever happened when someone went through those damn doors! Bella went in and died, Ben was stung, you were almost killed and you can barley walk now. I watched all of you jog through those doors and I hoped that you all would come back in one bloody piece, I had hope then, but now I don't. Everything has gone wrong, doubt this one will be any different!"
Newt's face was flustered and red, his body now overlapping Wendy's, but she didn't hold back. She pressed a finger to his chest and pushed the boy back, his face showing all signs of surprise.
"That's where you're wrong." she hissed back, backing him into the glade wall, her voice just as low as his. "Sure, I know Bella died, and that's horrible, but you know what? You're damn lucky to have had the privilege to love someone. Ben? He protected me, and I came back with minor injuries, but you know what? I came back, I'm here and I'm visible, and my sarcasm still exists. Minho will be back, so will Thomas, and Alby. Damn well you need hope. That seems to keep us alive nowadays, so better have some because I can't lose you."
