—
One week had passed by since Minho and Newt shouted at each other, yet gained a little bit more trust from each other. One more week had passed and Wendy was still unconscious. One more week had passed, and today, the new Greenie was coming up the box.
No one was really excited, everyone still not over Wendy not up and walking. It was dreadful, that someone would come up the box with no memories or feelings for Wendy so that they wouldn't miss her. The new Greenie was lucky to say the least.
Newt sat in the Med Jacks room, also known as Wendy's current resting place. His hands were bundled up in the sheets, his eyes set on her.
"The new greenie is coming up today." Newt said out loud, not knowing if Wendy could hear him or not. "Hope it's not another girl, already have you to deal with." he laughed sadly, his fingers itching to reach up and run his fingers through her hair. When Isabella was still there, Newt would always run his hands through her golden locks. He hadn't done it in awhile and never thought of repeating the action, especially since it was something the two only did. But now, he wasn't so sure if he should hold back or not.
Wendy and Newt were acquaintances, not friends, but acquaintances. Newt was hoping after their conversation at the gardens a few weeks back that he could get to know her better. But then Kyle came and messed everything up and now Newt didn't really know if Wendy was ever going to wake up again.
"I hope you do get up soon." Newt sighed, "Minho said that when you wake up, he'd start training you to become a runner like you wanted. Knew that it'd be a good surprise to wake up to. Well, when you do."
He sat there for a long time, the clock saying it was 6 a.m. He couldn't sleep last night, maybe because the nightmares he'd been having were too much. Of Isabella, of Wendy, of both of them. It had been the same nightmare every night, Wendy and Bella meeting, one of them killing the other. Every time a different girl died, but either way, it was painful to watch.
It started off the same every time: a door would slide open and Bella would walk through, her hair in long waves down to her waist, longer than Newt had seen it last time when she jumped off the cliff. Her eyes were dark, a light scar running down her left cheek. It was fresh, blood streaming from the wound.
In the dream, Newt would run to her, already knowing that the same thing would happen over again, but couldn't stop himself because it was Bella. And in the dream, Bella was alive, and God, even if it was just for a few seconds that Newt could touch her, he would.
He would pull her in his arms, smelling the scent of berries and ash mixed together in her hair. It was soft, like silk, and he would run his fingers through it as he kissed her, but then he would feel a jab in his stomach.
He would stop for a second a look down to see the end of a blade sticking out of Bella's stomach. He would hear her gasp as it was pulled out, and she would fall on him, leaving Newt to see Wendy holding a long blade with blood coating the edge.
