Chapter 29 - The Creators

—Three Weeks Before Isabella Died—

"It has all been successful. We had Gally write down all of the markings and words that have been degrading Isabella."

Ava Paige swung around in her chair at the soft words, smiling at one of her workers whom she hadn't learnt the name of yet. The worked gulped, but asked the woman in charge nonetheless.

"If you don't mind me asking, ma'am." she started, "Why are we extracting Isabella from the maze again?"

Ava pressed her hands together before standing up and pushing in the chair she currently sat in. She towered over the thirteen year old worker before looking down at her and speaking. "Well, Patience," she began, finally reading the name tag on the girls uniform, "you do know that Thomas is supposed to be the one to lead them out of the maze, correct?"

The girl nodded, and Ava continued. "Well, when we sent Isabella in, it was to prepare the boys for his arrival, but, it seems as if Bella was a bit too influencing. They almost found a way out without Thomas, and we certainly can't have that happen. So instead, we are slowly degrading the girl so she can become weak to the point where we can distract her with a message written in the maze walls and then have her fall off the cliff and into our hands. I guess she truly was never meant to go up, and I do feel bad for Wendy."

"Because she had to watch her boyfriend love someone else?" Patience piped up, and Ava nodded.

"Exactly, darling, but we're sending her up to fix that girl's mess. We're giving her another chance."

Patience smiled at this and swiped her red hair out of her face. "That's good. I liked Wendy with Newt, they always told me stories when they had time. Isabella was kind of rude." she laughed, scrunching up her nose. "Have you told her yet? You know, that she's going up the box."

Ava Paige shook her head, "Not yet. We're telling her a week before we extract the mess." she explained, and Patience smiled bubbly.

"I can't wait."

"Me too, Patience, me too."

—One Week After Wendy is Sent Up The Box—

Ava Paige sat with Patience again, the young red head now fourteen. The girl's eyes danced across the screen, watching as Wendy bumped into Newt in the forest and found him crying.

"They hate each other." Patience pointed out, her voice laced with sadness as the once bright couple that held hands in W.I.C.K.E.D's headquarters screamed at each other like the other was the enemy. It was like the good memories of the pair were fading away and were now being replaced with these awful moments she had to watch on screen. "They aren't the same anymore."

Ava nodded, but then she turned to the girl. "This is just the beginning, Patience: the boy still thinks that Isabella was his first love, but it won't be long until Wendy recalls some memories and finally tells him that they knew each other really well before. They'll be fine after that, and plus, Newt won't care about Isabella. He'll forget about her soon, and if he doesn't, when we restore his memories and he remembers what Isabella did, he'll hate her. Everything will be back to normal."
