Chapter 20 - Dreamland
[Recap: Kyle attacks Wendy and leaves her unconsciousness, all the Gladers unaware of all the memories she is recalling and dreams she is having in the meantime.]

Wendy was lucid in her dream state: a form of dreaming where you can control, change, experience the dream you're having in full HD, as if you were repeating it over again. Everything looked real, another side to reality, where you could feel, taste, and touch too. Except here, you could do anything you want like fly to outer space or dine in with animals and drink tea; the limits were endless, but so were the nightmares.
Wendy had no control over her lucid state because she was reliving her past memories that she had forgotten; the ones that were taken away from her and tossed to the side as she entered the Glade. Few were coming back, and Wendy wanted to watch it happen all over again.
She didn't know where she was, but it looked like a house, maybe a bedroom. Either way, it all looked unfamiliar to her, like a new landscape that was somehow connected to her past.
The walls were beige, but as her eyes focused, she noticed red stains dancing on the paint. And that's when it all cleared.
She was in a room, a very dirty one she had to say. The paint was peeling, the bed was undone and rusted, the chair was toppled over with clothes littering the floor. The dresser had made a hole in the wall, but the smell was worse.
The room reeked of death, a gross and disgusting rotting smell that coated the room like gas. She knew that it was from blood, the smell familiar to her. She looked round the room, the dream gliding as she walked forward.
"Mommy?" a child's voice asked from behind her, and Wendy instantly knew that she was witnessing a memory.
She turned to the voice to see a girl with blonde hair and dark eyes, a blanket clenched in her hands as she entered the room. Wendy was about to speak, but someone beat her to it.
"Bella, where's Mommy?" another child asked, and Wendy's eyes guided to the door to see another little girl taller than the first, but this one was holding onto a stuffed elephant.
She had dark hair to her shoulders and Wendy knew that it was her younger self. The freckles and face gave it away, and as an instinct, she reached up to touch her face.
The two girls walked forward towards Wendy and she was going to stop them from running into her, but instead they passed straight through her and into the room.
Wendy whipped around to examine the two, but they were already advancing to where the blood stain on the wall was.
"Stop!" Wendy yelled as she lurched forward, but her voice came out like a whisper and her feet seemed stuck to the ground, "Get back here-"
She heard a scream come from the two girls as they rounded the bed, and finally, Wendy was able to run to them, but the view was unwelcoming.
In front of the three girls was a corpse, not one, but two. They were two older women, the bodies fresh and reeking of blood as younger Wendy ran to one and younger Isabella ran to another.
"Mom!" Younger Wendy had cried, her tiny feet kicking the gun that remained unnoticeable to them under the bed. "Mommy, wake up!"
Wendy watched in fear as a herd of people burst through the door, black and white uniforms blurring her vision like the wind as one grabbed one girl and another grabbed the other. She heard distant screaming until the memory faded away.
Wendy looked down as the ground beneath her turned to dust and she found herself falling to the floor where she passed through it into another room.
