Amber's mother sighed, "I should have known. All the signs were there. The depression, the lack of smiles, and the leftover food . . . I'm such a terrible mother. I just can't believe I was so selfish and oblivious that I couldn't even recognize that my own daughter was so lonely and suffering through something so -"
Her mother began to wipe her tears and tried to smile, but Amber hugged her mother burying her wet cheeks into her mother's shirt. They held each other tightly and Amber whispered over and over, "It's not your fault."
