The air was cold and thin. The night breeze did not help at all. Darkness fell, leaving only the street lamps and stars in the sky as a source of light. The winds blew, the horses galloped and that was all that could be heard in the carriage.
The young prince, archer and medic mage were on their way to their first stop, Jewel Empire, which takes at least three days to reach. The trio figured that the journey would take longer than that, therefore keeping quiet. It was mainly to conserve energy.
The Medic Mage and Archer repected the silence presented by the Prince and left him be. That was something they did not want to break.
Out of the blue, a loud roar was heard. Being the Prince's protector, the archer took his bow and got out of the carriage to investigate. To his horror, a brown-coated beast was towering the Archer. Hands trembling, he formed a few terra bows with his magic and shot them at the beast.
Was it good shots? Yes it was. Did it even damage the beast? Not at all. The creature simply reflected the arrows in the direction of the carriage. The arrows flew so fast, fire formed on it.
The moment one of the arrows hit the carriage, it started setting on fire. The horses of the carriage ran away swiftly, so did the carriage driver, the Prince and the Medic Mage. By the the time they all evacuted the carrigae, it was engulfed in flames. Shortly after, the streetlamps went off, leaving the stars and the 'flame' carriage as their source of light.
The older mage shot the Archer a glare as the Prince removed his fire sword from his sheath. To his dismay, the monster trapped the Prince and the Medic Mage to their spots. They were fixated there, and so was the Archer.
No matter how many arrows the Archer shot at the beast, it was either reflected or dodged. The creature glared at the Archer with its glowing red eyes. It towered the Archer, lowering his confidence and strength.
Looks like this is the end of my service. The Archer fumed as he closed his eyes in defeat.
Seconds later, an ear piercing scream of agony was heard. The archer was slashed in the stomach, a gash forming around the area. The wound bled profusely. The monster poised itself, getting ready to strike again. At the condition the Archer was in, he would most likely suffer the beast's wrath and die. Although he wanted to run, he could not. He was fixated to the one place, cornered by the monster.
Few seconds later, another scream or agony was heard. Not from the Archer this time though. It was from the beast. It fell onto the floor, flooding the surrounding air with dust.
All the trio could see through the dust was a figure with long flowing hair, and a weapon in her hand. It was not just any weapon like a staff. From that angle, it looked like a sword.
The fire soon burt out and it left the carriage in ashes. The winds blew the dark powder off the floor and away in a matter of seconds.
A woman, using a sword? That can't be right... The Prince fretted as he approached the figure.
In a blink of an eye, she was gone.
Gone along with the dust, leaving the streets in total darkness.
Who in the world was the skilled warrior who saved their lives?
