Chapter 2
Wings! I thought stretching them out, while trying to get a better look. What’s up with the wings?
“Hannah!” My mom called.
“Yeah?” I answered as I started panicking at the thought of my mom coming up here and seeing this.
“Did you get the books I wanted from the library?”
“Yeah, mom, I did!” I answered back while mentally adding the part: Oh and I also got attacked on the way home too! And that I have wings!
I would never tell my mom stuff like that because she would freak. When she heard I was getting teased at school in third grade for wearing an old sweat shirt she went out and bought me a new one. Then she personally told the kids to knock it off. And I can’t tell my dad because he died in a car crash when I was five so now I’ve been roughing it out for the past nine years. So telling him is out of the picture.
“Alright then, dinner’s in ten minutes.”
“Alright, Mom”, I called back pulling on my t-shirt.
Fifteen minutes later I was at the kitchen table eating dinner, when my mom slammed down her fork and just came right out and told us that we’d be moving in two months.
“What!” I shouted as my fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, spit his milk back in to his cup.
“What! Mom, are you crazy?” Ben asked wiping his mouth.
“Well….” My mom said.
“Well….” My brother and I said anxiously.
“My manager said I could get a promotion but that it’ll be Tampa and not here in Minneapolis and it will be a better paying job so I said yes”, Mom said it as easily as if she was being asked if she wanted more butter with her bread.
“What!” I shouted again. “I don’t want to move. I want to stay here in Minneapolis and be with my friends in this school! Not in another school!”
“I know, I know but I thought it would be interesting if we went and we can always come back and vis-“, My mom started but I cut her off.
“No! No way am I just going to leave my friends here while I leave to move to another place!”
“Hannah I made my decision and it is final”, my mom said trying to keep her cool.
“Fine then!” I shouted as I threw my napkin down on the table and stomped out of the room.
