Chapter 12

“So…. can you fly”, Ivy asked me once we got to my room and had locked the door.

“Yah… but can you fly”, I asked then sent Ben a mental message which we call

M.M.’s. He immediately caught on and went to his room and came back with some rope.

“No… why? How would I be able to fly?” Ivy asked then saw the smile on Ben’s face and the rope in his hands. “What’s that for…”

“Well if you look at it one way it’s something that can choke, kill, strangle, and trap you somehow, but if you look at it another way… it can be your wings”, I said then took the rope from Ben and he turned into a bat. Next I tied the rope around his waist and I took the other end and slowly extended out my wings.

“What’s your plan here?” Brendan asked getting excited.

“Plan A is you two get on the rope like a swing and we fly you two to a lake about an hour away, okay?”

“What! Will you two be able to hold us that long?” Brendan asked.

“Yah… since when I flew there it only took five minutes” I said then motioned for them to get on.

Yah! Let’s go to the lake!” Ivy said as they hoped on.

“Ready been?” I asked and he just bobbed his bat head, “Okay. You lead, I’ll take up the back.” Then he flew out the porch doors and I followed with Ivy and Brendan sitting on the rope.

When we got there it looked horrible. The water looked dirty, the ground was uneven, and the island in the middle was different in a way that I can exactly tell.

“What happened here?” Ben asked after turning back into himself.

“I… I don’t know. When the WEA got me last week it looked beautiful. Calm. Quiet. Now it looks… blah”, I answered.

“The what got yah?” Ivy asked.

“The WE-“ I started to answer but Ben cut me off.

            “Shhh!” Ben said, “Listen…”

Then I heard it too. There was a weird feeling going up and down my back and I knew for sure there was something out there. Something that didn’t belong there.

As I looked around the birds got quiet and the bushes seemed to get louder behind me. Then I looked around and didn’t see any speed boats or guys in black so I felt a little better but still weird.

“I think we should go…” I said then I saw Ben run towards me. So I ducked and turned to see Ben kick the weirdo who kicked me in the ribs and I panicked.

“Ivy! Brendan! Get out of here! Sneak away and don’t come out till I give the call!” I shouted and Ivy knew what to do. She grabbed Brendan’s hand and tugged him away as he shouted towards me.

            “What’s the call?”

“Oh I’ll tell you, just come on!” Ivy answered him and continued to pull him away from the fight. Then I turned back to Ben and the weirdo and put my game face on.
