Chapter 13
By now Ben was fighting two weirdoes. One was slightly bigger than the other but he was taking them down like they were kindergarteners—big ones for that matter. He was moving so quickly. His punch was like a blink of the eye. I was sure he developed super speed.
Then two more weirdoes came out of nowhere and brought me down. I quickly kicked them off and got back up then I went to help Ben. He was down to one weirdo and one out cold.
The one out cold was lying on the ground. He had a black eye and possibly some broken bones. The one Ben was still fighting had big bruises already forming and I was pretty sure he was gonna have broken bones by the time Ben was done with him.
Then I heard a snap and the second weirdo went down. He lay there withering on the ground as Ben and I turned around to walk away but got ambushed by more weirdoes.
Where do all these guys keep coming from, I thought and began to fight one guy in black while Ben fought the other. These guys were a little smaller, but still strong.
The next thing I knew both guys were down and Ben and I were running for dear life. Then the thought hit me: Where are Ivy and Brendan?
“Call!” I shouted so Ivy and Brendan could hear me. “Call! Call! CALL!”
Then Ivy and Brendan bolted out of the woods and ran right to us.
“Ben! Bat. Now!” I shouted and Ben immediately turned into a bat and grabbed Brendan by his shirt collar and took off. Then I snapped out my wings and grabbed Ivy.
We flew and flew as fast as we could all the way home and dropped down on my bedroom porch. Then Ben turned back into himself and we ran inside and locked all the doors and closed all the curtains.
Finally we all collapsed on the floor and tried to catch our breaths.
“It looks like… they finally… put two and two together. Huh?” I asked Ben in between breaths.
“You… got that right!” Ben said in between breaths too.
“Were those the administration guys?” Ivy asked getting up off the floor.
“Yep”, Ben and I responded.
“Do you guys need some water? We can go get some for you guy”, Brendan asked as he got up.
“Sure”, Ben said sitting himself up, “why don’t we all go down stairs and get some water.”
“Ok!” I said getting up. I really needed some water right now. My throat was dry and the recent “action film” was playing in my head right now.
As we walked down stairs we spotted Mom. She was walking into her office and she dropped something. From the top of the stairs I could clearly read the eighteen sized Ariel font at the top of the page that read Ben Matt Crutz- Important Baby Identification.
So I sent an M.M. to Ben and he looked at the papers and back at me with a confused look on his face then the confused look changed to a surprised look. Then we continued on down the stairs and quickly slipped past Mom and into the kitchen.
In the kitchen we grabbed the cups and poured ourselves some water. Then just to play things cool Ivy and I started talking about our Hideous Makeovers and Ben and Brendan started talking about who they thought was gonna win this week’s football game.
Next we heard a crash and Ben and I jumped off our chairs and ran into Mom’s office followed by Ivy and Brendan. Mom had knocked over a vase of flowers. So Ben and Brendan helped clean it up while Ivy and I went to get the Broom and dust pan.
“Ok that scared me”, Ivy said once we were half way down the hall.
“No kidding”, I said, “Hey and if we hear any weird noises like that again just stay where you are and come when I give the call. But if I don’t give the call in about two minutes find and exit fast and run all the way to the coffee shop and call your mom to come pick you up. If you don’t get to an exit run up to my room and lock all the doors, turn off all the lights, and hide in my closet. Got it?”
“Got it”, Ivy answered and by that time we had the broom and Dust pan and were walking into my mom’s office again.
After cleaning up the mess we headed up stairs. The boys went into Ben’s room while Ivy and I went into my room. Then we did our Hideous Makeovers and by that time it was about seven o’clock in the afternoon and I was getting hungry.
“You hungry?” I asked and I started cleaning up the eyeshadow.
“A little. What’s for supper?” Ivy asked as she started cleaning up the lipstick, “Not Blood Punch… right?”
Then with a small laugh I answered her question, “No. No blood… or any kind of punch either. I hope…”
“Me too. I’ve had enough excitement for one day”, Ivy said and put the lipsticks into the makeup holder and we headed down stairs for supper.
