Derek Hale was known as the scary dude that no one wanted to mess with. At least after Paige.

We all knew about the story of how Derek used to be the intimidating, cocky guy at school who had a group of friends who he always played basketball with. We all knew about how once he met Paige, he changed. He became nicer and was more than in love with Paige.

But after Paige's death, everyone had wondered what it could've been. Some blamed Derek as he was the only thing that came to their minds. Because of that and his first love dying, he became cold and bitter, developing until he could kill someone with just one look.

I didn't think he was all that bad, he just had this barrier around him that no one really knew how to get into.

Derek had been in all my elementary classes, and in at least one since middle school. We were best friends in elementary but once middle school came, we just drifted away, somehow.

I knew everything about him. I knew about his werewolf powers, I knew his favorite color, his favorite pair of shoes, favorite tv show, etc.

I remember the exact moment when I asked him what the problem was.

*flashback*

"Hey. Dude, I haven't seen you for a while. Did something happen?" I asked, finding Derek at his locker in the hallway.

He turned to look at me, turning away, again.

"Derek," I reached for his shoulder but he backed away.

"Look, can you just leave me alone?" He asked, not looking at me.

"Derek.."

"Y/N leave me alone.. Please." Derek told me, closing his locker and leaving.

*end of flashback*

I never knew the reason why he had wanted me to leave him alone, but wanting to respect him, I just let it slide. But it also hurt, the way he just basically all of a sudden didn't to deal with me anymore.

To be truthful and completely honest, I'd always had a crush on Derek. Yes, since we were little. So yeah, it did hurt A LOT when he pushed me away.

I was walking through the hallway with F/N (*your friend's name*)

"And he was like, staring at me and I could totally tell," F/N blabbered on about her new crush.

I laughed, finding my locker and opening it with my combination.

"Why can't you just go up to him and say hi? It won't hurt," I told her, exchanging my books.

"Why can't you  just go up to Derek and say hi? It won't hurt," she mimicked my voice, a grin growing on her face.

I shut my locker, sighing.

"He wants me to leave him alone," I said, remembering what he had said.

From the corner of my eye, I saw someone at a locker across from the hallway, turn around slightly.

Derek.

He turned around, his green eyes meeting mine.

His eyes had always been my favorite thing about him. I was surprised that his eyes were softer when he looked at me than when he looked at others.

It was because he felt pity for me. He knew that I was more in love with him than he had been with Paige, and we were never even together.

I shook myself out of the trance and hurried off to my next class, F/N calling my name from behind me.
