I was laying at home, sniffling on the couch. My thumb repeatedly hitting the right arrow, moving through the list of movies on Netflix, trying to find one that I hadn't watched yet.

The bags under my bloodshot eyes were more evident than ever.

I placed the remote down, my hand reaching for my phone so I could check the time.

3:45 pm.

Behind the time and date showed a picture of Derek and I; him admiring me while I was making a silly face.

Quickly locking it, I threw it face down on the couch opposite of where I was.

Tears threatening to escape my eyes, I continued to find a movie.

Recently, Derek and I had been fighting. A lot. Over time, the arguments began to start for no real reason. The last fight had ended with Derek storming out, too fired up to say anything more. It was normal for him to leave for a few hours or a day at most but it had been a week. I was almost sure he didn't want anything to do with me anymore. He was too tired of all the fighting. I knew he was because I had been. I didn't blame him.

*flashback*

A loud noise came from downstairs; the front door.

I was in my bedroom but I knew it was Derek.

Furious from what he had just done, I went to the living room where he was taking off his coat and shoes.

"So where have you been?" I asked, arms crossed.

He turned to face me," hey babe."

The slurring of his words answered my question.

He stumbled over to me, trying to wrap his arms around me but I backed away.

"Where have you been, Derek?" I asked louder.

"Just had a little fun with Scott, don't worry," Derek explained.

"Do you remember what tonight was?"

"Uh-"

"We were supposed to have a date night with reservations but as soon as I got ready, you were no where to be found. You didn't answer my calls, my texts... I even left you like 10 voicemails," I began, raising my voice as the anger grew in me," I'm sick and tired of constantly fighting, but seriously? You couldn't show a little respect and not disappear without telling me?"

"Well then maybe you should just give up like me," Derek said, obviously still drunk.

Even though he didn't mean it as much as it sounded, it still hurt me.

"I gave up trying with us a while ago when we first started fighting. We never fought but now it's like we're not ourselves anymore. It's not even worth trying. I'm just hoping for a miracle where you'll just stop."

"What do I have to stop?"

"Stop getting upset over small things."

"Derek, this isn't a small thing. We made reservations and we both were so excited since we'd been trying to get them for forever. But all of a sudden I was bailed on," I spoke, my heart feeling broken.
