Chapter 17

*Alice*

This can't be my life. What even is this?! Everything has changed. Not even for the good, but for the bad. At least that's what I think.

*Dad*

"Alright, everyone come aboard." John says. Seth limps up. He's still weak from being shot. Everyone thought he was dead, but he made it. He's my strong boy.

"You alright?" I ask him. He nods his head, looking determined. Jake and Matt come along as well, giving me nervous looks. I return the same one.

"Everyone here?" John asks.

"Yup." I respond.

"Alright. Then up we go." He says with a smirk. I groan. Great. This is gonna be interesting.

*Mavis*

"So let me just get this straight, you told her, then left?" I say in disbelief. We're all sitting at the table eating dinner. Well, all but Alice. She hasn't come out of her room since Harry told her. She won't even talk. Or eat. Or do anything.

"I was afraid of what she would think...or say...." I groan.

"Idiot!" Tetra snorts. Harry, Louis, Gemma, and Anne blink at me.

"Prat." I correct myself. Harry frowns.

"I am not a prat! I was just worried..." I roll my eyes.

"Well look what happened now!" I say, annoyed. Tetra smirks.

"What did I say? You shouldn't have told her in the first place." She scoffs. Harry now rolls his eyes.

"Oh shut up. I don't care." Tetra gets up from the table and stomps out the door. Anne gives Harry a look and follows her. Harry shrugs.

"So what's up with her lately?" Louis asks. Harry sighs.

"I have no idea. She's hard to read."

"Like you." I say sourly. Harry glares at me.

"Chill. I'm sure Alice is fine...she's jut adjusting." I groan again.

"How long will it take for her to "adjust" to all of this?! I'm sick of waiting! I want to be her friend." I huff while crossing my arms. Harry sighs again.

"Try not to be so creepy, ok?" He says. I roll my eyes.

"Yeah whatever." And it goes silent.

*Alice*

I don't want to talk, to look, or to even notice anyone. I want to be alone. Please.

You'll get your way, sweetie.

What?!

You just wait.

I suddenly become confused. What was that? I try to shake the thoughts away. Ever since I got here on planet "Echo", things have been weird. Like the visions, now the voices. What is this place doing to me?! It's making me go insane!

Sure, yes let's say that.

What?! Who are you?

Your conscience, duh.

What?! That makes no sense! My conscience doesn't speak to me! No one's does!

See, that's where you're wrong. You see, after one more week of you saying here, you'll be stuck here forever. You may go back to Earth to visit, but you won't belong there anymore. You'll belong here.

What?!

Each day, you become more and more a citizen here. People here hear there conscience, and they see visions. It's normal. So now that's happening to you too.

No!

Yes.

No! I have to get out of here!

Well you better hurry. You only have seven days.

I jump to my feet, wobbling because I'm weak. I'm losing nutrients by not eating, so my small body barely has any energy. But I need to get out of here.

I go to the balcony and open the doors. I step out and look down. It's pretty high...but I have to do this. So I take a step back, and then close my eyes.

Before I even know what I'm doing, I run as fast as I can, and jump off the balcony rail.
